I absolutely love how Over the Garden Wall has become a yearly tradition for so many animation fans! Seriously, the story of Greg and Wirt just feels like fall. It’s amazing to me that even though it first came out back in 2014, it’s actually getting more popular over time. While we haven’t gotten news about a full sequel series yet, I’m thrilled to hear that Over the Garden Wall is coming back to Cartoon Network to celebrate a big milestone! If you somehow haven’t seen this critically acclaimed show, you’re in luck – next month is the perfect time to dive in!
Cartoon Network will be showing all ten episodes of Over the Garden Wall in a single marathon on April 7th, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. It’s a perfect opportunity to re-watch the story of Greg and Wirt, or experience it for the first time – the entire mini-series is about the same length as a full-length movie! The marathon also coincides with the release of the Blu-Ray, which is available for pre-order now. Fans have been waiting for a Blu-Ray version for years, as a DVD has been the only physical option until now.
Over The Garden Wall’s Return
The beloved Cartoon Network series, Over the Garden Wall, is getting a physical release with some exciting bonus content. While the exact extras are currently unknown, a previous Blu-Ray release in the UK gives us a good idea of what to expect. That edition included a behind-the-scenes look, the original pilot episode (originally titled “Tome of the Unknown”), deleted scenes, and a special composer’s cut of the show. Hopefully, the new release will include all of that, and even more!
Although a continuation of the original series is unlikely, the adventures of the brothers trying to escape the Unknown haven’t ended. Boom! Studios has released several comic book mini-series expanding on the world of Over the Garden Wall, including a previous series that ran for twenty issues. These comics include Over the Garden Wall: Hollow Town, Over the Garden Wall: Soulful Symphonies, Over the Garden Wall: Distillatoria, Over the Garden Wall: Circus Friends, and Over the Garden Wall: The Benevolent Sisters of Charity. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, the story was also reimagined with a special stop-motion animation. Even without a sequel, Over the Garden Wall has become a cherished part of animation history.
