Overwatch 2’s Season 18 updates, as revealed by Blizzard under their Defense Matrix program, center around ensuring fair play, enhancing console performance, and promoting secure interactions within the game.
Mouse and Keyboard on Consoles
In Overwatch 2, for the very first time, console gamers now have the option to play using a mouse and keyboard setup. Those who opt for this setup will be categorized in what was formerly known as the PC Pool, but is now called the Mouse and Keyboard Pool. Meanwhile, players still sticking with controllers will find themselves in the renamed Controller Pool.
To guarantee fair competition, the mouse and keyboard group disables aim assistance, regardless of player preference for controllers. Any user opting out of the appropriate pool may find their controls temporarily deactivated. Users are free to change pools within the settings menu at their convenience.
Controllers on PC
To preserve fairness, players utilizing controllers on PC will also be included in the general Competitive Pool, ensuring that everyone uses the same input devices.
Cracking Down on Cheating Devices
Blizzard is beefing up its campaign against unauthorized gaming accessories that promote cheating. So far, over 23,000 gamers have been disciplined for utilizing prohibited gear or teaming up with cheaters.
Now that official mouse and keyboard usage is supported, the rules have become stricter. Employing unauthorized devices within the Controller Pool could lead to a permanent ban on your account, irrespective of your rank or game mode.
Real-Time Chat Moderation
In Overwatch 2, a new feature called real-time text moderation is being implemented to decrease toxicity. This means any inappropriate or offensive chat messages won’t be visible during team lobbies. However, if a player decides to do so, they can unveil and report these messages.
This system, initially implemented in World of Warcraft, is designed to foster a friendlier and secure atmosphere. Blizzard cautions that infringements on the In-Game Code of Conduct may result in temporary mutes, suspensions, or even permanent expulsions.
In World of Warcraft, this system was first introduced to make the game safer and more inviting for everyone. Blizzard strongly advises that breaching the In-Game Code of Conduct could lead to temporary mutes, suspensions, or even a permanent ban.
Over One Million Cheaters Banned
According to the confirmation by the Defense Matrix team, over a million accounts for Overwatch 2 have been suspended due to cheating activities since its release. This ban applies not only to individuals employing hacking tools but also to those associating with players who engage in such dishonest practices.
Blizzard continues to focus on making Overwatch 2 fair, fun, and competitive for all players.
