Great news for Stadium fans! Tracer, the popular hero from Blizzard’s Overwatch, is joining the game with the midseason update for Season 18. She’ll introduce exciting new moves and abilities to the field.
Building a Hero for Stadium
Seeing Tracer appear in the Stadium was incredible – it wasn’t just a simple addition! The team at Blizzard really went all out, working on everything from her look and how she plays, to the sound effects and the tech behind it all. They started with these core ideas of how she *could* be played – almost like blueprints for different styles. With Tracer, they wanted her to be super quick and deal a lot of damage, but also be able to help her team when needed. It’s clear they put a lot of thought into making her feel just right!
After establishing the core concept for Tracer, we created early versions of her to test. We didn’t just ask experienced players to try her out – we wanted feedback from people who had never played her before. Our main goal was to ensure she was enjoyable and effective for all players. We focused on making her abilities easy to understand with clear visuals, simple explanations, and fair, balanced gameplay.
Tracer’s Stadium Powers
Tracer’s Stadium kit reflects her time-bending fantasy, while adding new layers of creativity:
- Temportal – Recall with a twist. Tracer can create a portal that allows an ally to recall with her.
- Alternate Ending – Restores up to 75% of recent damage taken by nearby enemies, giving Tracer clutch healing potential.
- Quantum Clip – Expands ammo capacity and grants Weapon Lifesteal when you Blink during reload. This rewards advanced mechanics but also teaches new players valuable habits.
Powers like Bullet Time support her playstyle as a sneaky, backline attacker, and also create fast-paced, chaotic gameplay.
Expanding Tracer’s Fantasy
Tracer can still eliminate enemies quickly, but the new map, Stadium, encourages team-focused and support-oriented ways to play. You can use her quick movements to take out opponents on your own, or focus on helping your team with abilities that provide support and control – her kit is versatile enough to handle both.
Blizzard wanted to ensure Tracer remained fast and capable of manipulating time, but also easy for everyone playing in the Arena to use effectively.
Ready to Blink
Tracer is arriving in Stadium and promises to be a game-changer. Whether you’re an experienced player or just starting out, her unique abilities and helpful tools will be valuable. Blizzard expects she’ll encourage players to try new tactics and learn the ropes as they go.
