Overwatch Sets New Peak Concurrent Player Record on Steam As the Reign of Talon Begins

With the release of five new heroes, a completely redesigned seasonal system, significant user interface improvements, and the removal of the “2” from its name, Overwatch has seen a surge in popularity on Steam. The game recently reached a peak of 165,651 concurrent players – more than double its previous high of 75,608, which occurred when it first launched on the platform.

Okay, so the game still has a pretty rough reputation overall, but I’ve noticed more recent reviews are… less awful, which is a start, right? Honestly, everyone’s really hyped about the new characters. Jetpack Cat, Domina, and Emre are definitely the fan favorites. Mizuki and Anran aren’t getting quite as much love, but I’m wondering if that’s just because the others are a little too powerful right now.

A major addition in Overwatch 2: Season 1, Reign of Talon, is Conquest. Inspired by the recent cinematic showing Vendetta taking charge of Talon, players can now align themselves with either side in the unfolding conflict. The best part? You’re free to switch allegiances whenever you like and earn rewards by playing as a secret agent for both sides.

A new Battle Pass is available now, featuring a unique Mythic skin for Mercy and a Mythic Weapon skin for Juno. Plus, there’s a limited-time event with Hello Kitty and Friends, bringing even more cosmetic items to unlock.

You can play Overwatch on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. A version for the new Nintendo Switch 2 is coming out this spring.
