Anjali Bhimani, the voice of Symmetra in Overwatch, has shared her thoughts on the upcoming return to the original game title, simply ‘Overwatch’.
“I absolutely love it!” Bhimani exclaimed during filming for our recent Arcade Hang interview. (You can find all episodes of Arcade Hang on our YouTube channel.)
Bhimani and Felicia Day were interviewed while in London for a week of performances of ‘The Guild: The Musical’.
Day asked at this point: “Does that mean they’re never doing a three?”
Bhimani replied, “Actually, no, but it feels like… and I apologize if I’m overstepping, Blizzard, I’m just sharing my personal view…”
Overwatch 2 feels more like an update to the first Overwatch than a completely new game, and I appreciate that they’ve combined them. It makes the whole experience feel more cohesive and like one continuous world.

Bhimani added:”It feels like it’s all one story that they are just beginning to branch out from.
I’m really glad they removed that element; it feels like the core game is still there, and they’re just building on it with more story, which is great.
So, I was curious why Blizzard decided to go back to just calling it ‘Overwatch’ again, and Polygon actually got the details on that. They’ve got the whole story behind the name change!
Blizzard president Johanna Faries mentioned during a recent press event that they’ve discussed this topic extensively over the past year.
Around 20 to 30 people expressed a desire to take significant creative risks, not only with the story changes planned for the new season (originally season 21, now season 1), but also to completely revamp the show’s format.
Faries described a strong, collective feeling that now was the perfect moment for the Overwatch universe to undergo a significant and positive change. Everyone enthusiastically agreed it was time for a major turning point.
The game isn’t just getting a new name – the season counter is also resetting to season 1, giving it a fresh start. Overwatch season 1 is available to play now!
