Ozzy Osbourne Dead at 76: Black Sabbath, Jason Momoa and More React

There’s a hole in the sky and in the hearts of Ozzy Osbourne’s loved fans.

Black Sabbath’s lead singer, John Michael Osbourne, sadly passed away at the age of 76. His family confirmed this news on July 22, six years after his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.

With deeper sorrow than any words can express, we regretfully announce the passing of Ozzy Osbourne this morning, as stated in a communique to TopMob News. He was in the company of his family and enveloped by love. At this difficult moment, we kindly request everyone to honor our privacy.

Ozzy, who was the father of Elliot Kingsley, Louis Osbourne, Jessica Osbourne, Aimée Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, and Jack Osbourne (with ex-wife Thelma Riley and wife Sharon Osbourne respectively), significantly influenced the music industry during his long career in performance.

Throughout his career, both as part of Black Sabbath and during his solo ventures, the “Lord of Darkness” paved the way for the evolution of heavy metal music. However, it’s important to note that the artist was not always comfortable being categorized under the label of “heavy metal.

In 2023, Ozzy expressed his discomfort with the label ‘metal’ that was given to him by saying, “That title never sat well with me,” to Spin. He explained that being categorized under a specific genre can limit one’s creative freedom, making it challenging to experiment with lighter tones or acoustic tracks, or any music outside of the genre. In his early days, he noted that everything was simply rock music and it still is today.

However, it was that particular genre of music, be it heavy metal, rock, or a blend thereof, which struck a chord with numerous individuals throughout the years.

Initially, it was Jason Momoa who expressed condolences to the late rocker. He wrote, “I love you @ozzyosbourne,” on his post, accompanied by a photo featuring Ozzy and Sharon. “I’m so thankful. Rest in peace.

The iconic band Black Sabbath, made up of members Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler, paid tribute to their frontman on social media by saying “Ozzy will always be remembered as Ozzy Forever.

Shortly thereafter, Metallica, fellow heavy metal companions of Black Sabbath, paid tribute to the deceased rock icon by posting a broken heart symbol along with an old photograph of Ozzy Osbourne with the band.

Another peer to pay tribute was Elton John, who called Ozzy a “true legend.”

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, he expressed that the individual was not only a cherished friend but also a groundbreaking figure in rock music, deserving of a spot among the legendary rock gods. Moreover, he mentioned that this person was incredibly witty, humor being one of his most endearing qualities. He shared that he would deeply miss him. To Sharon and the family, he extends his heartfelt condolences and love.
