DC has unveiled the covers for October’s issue #2 of Batman, penned by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles. The primary cover by Jimenez and Morey depicts Batman and Robin in a dramatic pose atop a building, with the duo bathed in light to highlight their new outfits. Previously hinted at, it now appears that not only is Batman receiving an outfit upgrade but also Tim Drake’s Robin costume. Furthermore, this design pays homage to a beloved period for the character of Robin.

Over time, the tight control of censorship laws on the comic book industry gradually lessened, enabling comics to evolve. During this period, known as the Bronze Age, superhero comics started featuring darker themes and more complex stories. Villains became formidable adversaries, while horror elements were incorporated into various comic series. Moreover, increased diversity marked this era, leading to the creation of many prominent characters of color. As a result, DC Comics was now free to delve into themes and genres that were previously forbidden due to the stricter censorship during the Silver Age.

Now, Makoto Yukimura’s ‘Vinland Saga’ stands as his second completed series, following the science fiction manga for adults, ‘Planetes’. Initially published in Kodansha’s ‘Weekly Shonen Magazine’ in April 2005, ‘Vinland Saga’ was later moved to ‘Monthly Afternoon’ in October of the same year. It remained there until its final chapter on July 24th, 2025. Despite not reaching the sales figures of other renowned series like ‘Berserk’ and ‘Vagabond’, ‘Vinland Saga’ had already garnered significant acclaim before Wit Studio’s anime adaptation (later taken over by MAPPA for Season 2).

The filmmaker expressed uncertainty about whether Aquaman is considered part of the official storyline (canon), suggesting it might not be. He further hinted that if the DC Universe sticks with its current Aquaman character, adjustments to the timeline may be necessary since Season 2 of Peacemaker is in progress, and Superman and Aquaman are not yet established as famous heroes in this context.
