Craig Brewer, the writer and director of Song Sung Blue, recently discussed how involved Neil Diamond was with the project, including getting permission to use Diamond’s music. Although Brewer wasn’t beside Diamond when the singer finally watched the film, Brewer planned ahead to get Diamond’s feedback. He shared with Entertainment Weekly:

According to Matt, Vecna was completely surprised by their sudden attack on his home ground – something he never anticipated. They felt it made more sense for Vecna to confront the group directly, as the Mind Flayer was already a powerful enough threat. He didn’t need to rely on his smaller creatures to help him.
