The biggest movie release on October 1st is likely to be *Play Dirty*, a new film starring Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield. It’s the first feature-length movie from director Shane Black in seven years.

Midway through the newest episode of *Peacemaker*, Rick Flag Sr. goes to Belle Reve prison to see a secret inmate – a man we initially see walking with a cane. It’s quickly revealed to be Lex Luthor, played once again by Nicholas Hoult, who previously appeared in this summer’s *Superman* film. This appearance instantly makes the DC Universe feel interconnected and exciting, hinting that any character could potentially appear. However, director James Gunn has shared that this cameo almost didn’t happen.

Great villains often divide fans, and anime is no different. While many anime feature heroes with complex morals, we’re seeing more main characters who actually *cause* problems and act as villains themselves. As these villains are increasingly given understandable, even sympathetic, backstories – explaining why they seek revenge or try to change things – it’s natural that more fans start to see things from their point of view. This list highlights several anime villains who successfully gained the audience’s empathy, and maybe even their support.

Fred Dekker’s 1987 film, *The Monster Squad*, initially a box office disappointment but now a beloved cult classic, began streaming on Paramount+ on September 1st. The movie features the classic Universal Monsters – Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Gill Man, and Frankenstein’s Monster – as they team up to find an ancient amulet that would give Dracula world domination. Luckily, a group of quirky, monster-loving kids is determined to protect their town and stop them.

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of *Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3*, recently told Automaton that the team isn’t concerned about *Rebirth’s* sales affecting the third game. He explained that *Rebirth* has seen a significant boost in sales since its release on PC and is now performing strongly. Development on *Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3* is proceeding as scheduled, and the majority of the game is now playable.

Spider-Man comics have often redefined superhero storytelling, but with over six decades of issues, not every story has been a success. These ten storylines, in particular, significantly harmed Spider-Man’s character.

Wizards of the Coast began by discussing their existing world, *Lorwyn Eclipsed*, and previewed the upcoming *Secrets of Strixhaven* set. They also hinted at another *Universes Beyond* collaboration, though details are still to come. The next *Magic: The Gathering* set based on Marvel will be called *Marvel Super Heroes* and is scheduled to release in June 2026.

As a huge fan of Metroidvanias, I’m not surprised to see *Hades*, *Hollow Knight: Silksong*, *Hollow Knight*, and *Hades II* dominating the Nintendo Switch eShop charts right now! But what really caught my eye is seeing *Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition* at number five, and *Ori and the Will of the Wisps* right behind *Stardew Valley* at number seven. Both *Ori* games have been available on Switch for a while – *Blind Forest* since 2019 and *Will of the Wisps* since 2020 – and it turns out they’re both on sale right now. That explains why everyone’s grabbing them!
