As per Deadline, the cult classic movie “The Toxic Avenger” will have an unrated wide release on August 29th, which happens to be during the Labor Day weekend. Cineverse possesses the U.S. and Canadian theatrical, home entertainment, and streaming rights for “The Toxic Avenger,” thanks to a deal with Legendary Entertainment. The remake premiered at Fantastic Fanfest in 2023 and received favorable reviews, almost scoring perfectly on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it faced difficulties finding a distribution deal due to its intense violence. This raised questions about whether “The Toxic Avenger” would ever be seen again. Chris McGurk, the chairman and CEO of Cineverse, expressed, “Not only is ‘The Toxic Avenger’ an excellent film, but it’s also a crucial one…Major studios tend to shy away from releasing films like this because they challenge norms, but Cineverse thrives on backing daring, unyielding storytelling. We believe that audiences are ready – and excited – for movies such as ‘The Toxic Avenger’ to take the spotlight.
