
Adapted from Walter Mosley’s renowned novel, the story unfolds in the African American community of Sag Harbor, New York. The protagonist, Charles Blakey (played by Corey Hawkins), is struggling financially, facing potential foreclosure on his ancestral home. A sudden visit from an enigmatic businessman, Anniston Bennet (portrayed by Willem Dafoe), presents an unusual and prosperous offer: rent out the unoccupied basement in Charles’ home for the summer and receive enough funds to clear all debts.
