I’ve been watching Robert Carlyle work his magic on screen for over forty years now, and what a career it’s been! He first grabbed my attention with edgy roles in films like Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting and then, surprisingly, as a Bond villain in The World is Not Enough. But he’s never been one to stick to a single genre. He’s effortlessly moved between genuinely terrifying horror in movies like Ravenous and 28 Weeks Later, hilarious comedies like The Full Monty (and its TV follow-up), even sci-fi with Stargate Universe. And he’s still going strong, recently appearing alongside David Tennant in The Hack and popping up in several episodes of CBS’s Watson. It’s a testament to his range and talent that he’s remained a consistently compelling performer for so long.
