2026 looks like a fantastic year for strategy game lovers! We’re expecting the return of popular series, sequels fans have waited a long time for, and exciting new games from well-known developers. These titles build on years of successful game design while also bringing fresh ideas to the table. They promise all the things that make strategy games great: challenging gameplay, compelling stories, and deep, complex systems. Here are five of the most anticipated strategy releases of the year, including the return of two classic series and a potentially amazing video game adaptation of a popular fantasy world.

Okay, so we know Spider-Man, The Punisher, and Hulk are going to be in Brand New Day, which is awesome. But man, the rumor mill is working overtime with potential villains! Everyone’s buzzing about Scorpion, Tombstone, Boomerang, Jackal, 8-Ball, even The Hand… basically a whole rogues’ gallery. We haven’t gotten official confirmation on any of them, and honestly, it was a mystery why they’d even be in the movie. But I just watched Wonder Man, and I think it might have dropped a big hint about what’s going on!

Chris Hemsworth was asked who would win in a fight between Wanda Maximoff (the Scarlet Witch) and Thor, and he confidently replied, “Probably Wanda.” While some fans disagreed, most agreed with him that even Thor wouldn’t be able to defeat her. One Marvel fan commented, “I’m glad Chris is being honest – the Scarlet Witch would definitely win.”

Despite concerns, superhero movies released from 2020 to 2025 actually include some of the best the genre has ever seen. The quality hasn’t declined at all.

Things could be changing soon, as Nexon and Blizzard are reportedly working together to bring StarCraft into the world of shooting games. This is great news for fans who have been hoping to revisit that universe. However, there’s a lot riding on this new game, and I’m not sure I want to see the companies potentially undo the satisfying conclusion the series had in 2015.

Sabretooth is a famously dangerous Marvel villain, and he’s consistently been a fan favorite. This popularity has led Marvel to explore different takes on the character, starting with the alternate reality storyline “The Age of Apocalypse” in 1995. In this version, Sabretooth was a hero with the X-Men, known for his close bond with the mutant Blink. This alternate Sabretooth became so popular he later appeared in the Exiles comic series. More recently, in 2025, Marvel introduced another version of Sabretooth as a kind and compassionate character in Ultimate Wolverine. This raises an interesting question: what makes the main version of Sabretooth (from the 616 universe) so villainous, while these other versions aren’t?
