It seemed like every other series had a maid character or plotline back then. These shows often catered to our fantasies, with a maid mysteriously appearing in the protagonist’s life and causing dramatic changes. However, as happens with many anime trends, maids eventually lost their charm and faded away. Despite new releases like Akiba Maid War from 2022, they’re no longer as prominent as they once were in the anime world.

In 2022, Parker Finn’s “Smile 2” generated more buzz and positive reception compared to the original “Smile,” with a higher rating of 85% positive reviews versus the original’s 79%. This heightened attention is not only due to its box-office success but also critical acclaim. Moreover, the sequel hinted at a darker progression of the franchise’s demonic curse, leaving fans intrigued about future installments. Finn has expressed interest in continuing the series if he can develop character stories instead of focusing on cheap scares. Although a third film is yet to be officially announced, there are promising storytelling opportunities for the franchise that Finn sees. Currently, “Smile 2” is playing in cinemas.
