Paige Greco, Paralympic Gold Medalist, Dead After Medical Episode

Paralympians are mourning the loss of one of their own.

Paige Greco, a 28-year-old gold medalist in Paralympic cycling, passed away on November 16th at her home in Adelaide, Australia, after a sudden medical issue, according to South Australian authorities and AusCycling.

Paige was incredibly special to our family,” said Paige’s mother, Natalie Greco, in a statement. “Her kindness, strength, and warm personality brightened every day. She filled our lives with happiness and pride, and we will always feel the deep sadness of losing her.

Natalie emphasized the impact of her daughter’s accomplishments in her short life.

We’re heartbroken by her passing, but incredibly proud of the wonderful person she was and how she represented Australia. Our family is deeply thankful for the overwhelming support from everyone who knew Paige, especially her teammates and friends. She truly valued the relationships she built through her sport, and it’s comforting to know how much love she shared and received.

At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, Paige made history by winning Australia’s first gold medal in the Women’s C1–3 3000m Individual race, also setting a new record. She continued her success by earning bronze medals in both the Women’s C1–3 Road Race and Time Trial, adding to her collection of World Championship titles.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m always thrilled to celebrate incredible achievements, and Paige certainly fits the bill! AusCycling’s CEO, Marne Fechner, and I both agree – she’s an extraordinary athlete. Her accomplishments are truly outstanding, especially considering she’s competing at the very highest levels of the sport. It’s inspiring to see such dedication and talent!

Marne shared that Paige had a wonderful impact on everyone she knew, always bringing positivity and courage. She expressed deep sympathy to Paige’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all who supported her, both now and in the past, acknowledging this is a very painful time.

Similarly, Paralympics Australia CEO Cameron Murray called the loss of Paige “devastating.”

He described Paige as not only an incredible athlete, but an even more impressive person. While she excelled in international competition, it was her compassion, resilience, and ability to inspire others that people would remember most.
