The developers of Palworld, Pocketpair, have revealed that the game’s official 1.0 release will be its largest update to date. In a recent interview with GamesRadar at GDC 2026, publishing head John Buckley stated that players will be surprised by the sheer amount of new content. Buckley explained that Palworld 1.0 is designed to appeal to all types of players, offering something for everyone.
The developer described survival crafting games as a popular genre on Steam, despite its ups and downs. They noted that while many great survival crafting games exist, each player has their own idea of what the perfect experience should be. With the 1.0 update, they hope Palworld will be that ideal game for everyone – a truly immersive survival crafting experience. Ultimately, they believe Palworld will be the survival crafting game players have always dreamed of.
Although Buckley didn’t reveal specific details about the upcoming 1.0 update for Palworld, he mentioned it will significantly improve and expand almost every part of the game. Players will be able to continue playing with their existing characters or start a new game. However, the developers recommend starting a new game to fully experience all the changes being implemented.
Buckley described the upcoming 1.0 update as highly confidential, promising some unexpected features. He believes players will be amazed by what the team has accomplished. While existing players can continue with their current characters when 1.0 launches – there won’t be a mandatory reset – the developers gently suggest starting a new character. This is because the update will fundamentally change the game from start to finish.
For players who want to pick up where they left off in their current games, Buckley said a significant amount of new content will be added, especially for those nearing the end. While you won’t be missing the core story experience, you will miss out on some new additions. The team has worked to improve all parts of the game – not just the endgame – by expanding the early and mid-game content to offer something for every type of player.
Regarding plans after the 1.0 update, Pocketpair’s Buckley stated they don’t intend for Palworld to follow the same path as No Man’s Sky – meaning they won’t abandon initial promises and leave players feeling unsupported.
Many of our dedicated fans hope Palworld will receive continuous, large updates for years, similar to No Man’s Sky. However, that’s likely unrealistic. Not only is our game engine limited, but Palworld is a survival crafting game, and we believe there’s a point where adding more content – like levels – would make the game overly complex and bloated.
Palworld is available on PC, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
