Paramount has been in the news lately, not because of its popular movies and shows, but due to company changes. The studio recently joined forces with Skydance and is trying to merge with Warner Bros Discovery. Meanwhile, there’s disappointing news for animation fans: a highly anticipated animated series, based on a famous cartoon character known for loving lasagna, has been canceled before its first episode even airs. This unexpected decision is likely to surprise many viewers who have followed this character’s animated adventures for years.
Animator Bob Camp recently revealed on social media that Nickelodeon canceled a new Garfield animated series before any public announcement. Camp mentioned the cancellation while discussing changes happening at the network and his work on The Patrick Star Show. Although he didn’t provide specifics, the decision is surprising given Garfield’s long history and popularity in comics, TV, and film.
The Future of Garfield

Don’t expect a new Garfield TV show on Paramount anytime soon, but a sequel to The Garfield Movie is definitely happening! Sony Pictures announced last year that Chris Pratt will reprise his role as the famous cat. The first movie featured a star-studded cast alongside Pratt, including Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillen, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Snoop Dogg – and while it’s not official yet, many of them could return for the sequel.
Garfield is still popular today, with new comic strips and lots of merchandise featuring Garfield, Odie, and Jon. If you’re interested in watching his recent TV show, “The Adventures of Garfield” aired from 2019 to 2024, but it’s not currently streaming on Paramount+. Although the show has ended, creator Jim Davis has indicated Garfield will likely appear on television again in the future.
Recently, Paramount has been removing some beloved Nickelodeon shows, surprising many animation fans. This year, shows like Kablam! and Action League Now disappeared from their streaming service, and As Told By Ginger will be gone in 2025. Hopefully, the other popular Nicktoons currently on Paramount+ will stay available as streaming services evolve.
