Although Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone ended in 2024 after five very successful seasons, he remains a major force in television. In addition to the successful Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923, the series Landman -starring Billy Bob Thornton-has also been well-received by both viewers and critics. Many people believe that Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King have improved with each season, and Lioness follows a similar pattern. The first season of Lioness (originally titled Special Ops: Lioness) received mixed reviews, earning a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but Season 2 saw a significant jump in popularity with a 90% score.
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to hear we’re officially getting a third season! It’s been a bit of a wait – the show took 2025 off – but it feels like forever since Season 2 ended 10 months ago. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like we’ll have *too* long to wait this time. Remember, Season 2 started filming in May 2024 and the first episode aired just five months later, on October 27, 2024. I’m hoping for a similar turnaround! I don’t have all the details just yet, but we do know a few things about what’s coming in Season 3, which is exciting. I can’t wait! It’s going to be epic.
What Do We Know About Lioness Season 3?

There was a wait between Season 2 and Season 3 of the show simply because the main actors have very full schedules. Lioness stars Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, and both of them are also executive producers on the show. While Saldaña has finished playing Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she did recently do voice work for Pixar’s Elio. She was also busy promoting the critically acclaimed Emilia Pérez throughout the awards season from late last year into early this year.
In addition, she’s returning as Neytiri in the next Avatar: Fire and Ash film. While filming for the third movie in James Cameron’s series finished way back in 2020, promoting it will likely take up a significant amount of Saldaña’s time as well.
Nicole Kidman, a familiar face in the DCEU, had a busy 2024 with Season 2 of Lioness, as well as the films A Family Affair, Babygirl, and Spellbound. Her 2025 schedule currently includes just one movie, Holland for Prime Video, but she recently finished filming Practical Magic 2. This sequel reunites her with Sandra Bullock, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing from the original film. Joining them are Joey King from The Conjuring, Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones, and Lee Pace, known for Guardians of the Galaxy.
The delay is also due to contract negotiations. Zoe Saldaña was initially signed on for three seasons, while Nicole Kidman was only committed to two, requiring her to work with Paramount+ to create a new contract. Both Saldaña and Kidman will return, but there’s currently no confirmation about Morgan Freeman, The Penguin’s Michael Kelly, or the fantastic Genesis Rodriguez who joined the show in Season 2.
When can we expect Lioness Season 3? Taylor Sheridan and Paramount+ are consistently releasing new shows, so it probably won’t be too long before it arrives. As an example, Landman Season 2 began filming in April 2025 and premiered on November 16th, a turnaround of just seven months. Similarly, Tulsa King Season 3 started filming in March 2025 and launched on September 21st, taking six months from filming to release. If Lioness Season 3 follows this same timeline and begins production shortly, we can reasonably anticipate its arrival sometime during the second or third quarter of 2026.
