Animation offers a huge range of movies, and while films like The Lion King, Shrek, and the popular new series KPop Demon Hunters are well-known, many other deserving animated movies get overlooked. A 2018 film that received some positive attention but faded from memory is now available on Paramount+, giving it a second chance to be discovered.
As the weather gets colder and Christmas nears, it’s a great time to watch the animated film Smallfoot. Streaming on Paramount+ since December 1st, this charming movie tells the story of Migo, a friendly Yeti, who goes on an adventure to prove that humans – whom he calls “smallfoot” – actually exist. Smallfoot is based on an original idea by Sergio Pablos and features a fantastic voice cast, including Channing Tatum, James Corden, Zendaya, Common, LeBron James, and many others.
Why You Should Watch Smallfoot
When Smallfoot came out, it did well, earning $214 million and a 75% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this initial success, the movie has largely been forgotten, and it’s a surprisingly enjoyable film that deserves another look.
With a solid 62% audience score, the film is a surprisingly thoughtful and enjoyable movie. While it uses the classic ‘monster meets human’ premise, it goes beyond typical kids’ fare to tackle important ideas like the spread of false information, challenging those in power, and how society shapes our beliefs. Ultimately, it’s a story about acceptance and understanding, making it engaging for viewers of all ages. Despite these complex themes, Smallfoot remains lighthearted and fun, cleverly turning the Bigfoot story on its head. It’s filled with catchy songs, such as “Let It Lie,” and features beautiful animation that vividly portrays the Himalayan mountains.
While Smallfoot did reasonably well, it didn’t quite stand out amongst all the other animated films released around the same time. However, it’s a genuinely good movie that both kids and adults can enjoy. Frozen is the more popular winter-themed animated choice, but Smallfoot is definitely worth watching and might just surprise you.
Other Family Movies Now on Paramount+
Paramount+ is offering a lot of family entertainment this December! Starting December 1st, you can stream movies like Smallfoot, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Ella Enchanted, and Peanuts: Bon Voyage Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back). They’ve also added some Christmas classics, including Ernest Saves Christmas and both the original 1947 and 1994 versions of Miracle on 34th Street.
