Horror comedies are a unique and enjoyable blend of genres. Movies like Shaun of the Dead and Cabin in the Woods successfully combine humor and fear, creating a thrilling and hilarious experience that audiences love. And just ahead of the return of a popular horror comedy series after ten years, one of its beloved installments is now available to stream on Paramount+.
Just before the release of Scary Movie 6 next year, Paramount+ began streaming Scary Movie 2 on December 1st. Released a year after the first Scary Movie in 2000, the film centers on a group of college students who fall for a trap and spend a night in a haunted house filled with ghostly encounters. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed, and Shawn and Marlon Wayans both wrote and starred in the movie, alongside returning favorites Anna Faris and Regina Hall.
Why You Should Watch Scary Movie 2
While not as well-received as the first film, Scary Movie 2 was still a successful addition to the series. Critics gave it a lower score on Rotten Tomatoes (13% versus the original’s 51%), but it continued the tradition of cleverly spoofing horror movies. This time, the focus shifted from slasher films to supernatural classics like The Haunting, The Amityville Horror, The Exorcist, and Poltergeist. The movie combined this with a funny, well-structured story, and its over-the-top, often crude humor – including memorable scenes like the dinner party and the line “take my strong hand” – has earned it a dedicated fanbase over time.
The Wayans brothers, who haven’t been involved with the Scary Movie franchise for over 20 years, are returning for the upcoming Scary Movie 6. Marlon and Shawn Wayans will both star in and write the new film, with Keenan Wayans contributing to the script. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are also reprising their roles as Cindy and Brenda, and Chris Elliott will return as Hanson. The movie, playfully titled Scary MoVIe, is already poking fun at other films and is set to be released in theaters on June 12, 2026. Details about the plot are still under wraps.
What’s New on Paramount+?
This December, Paramount+ added a bunch of new movies and shows, including the horror films Scary Movie 2, Disturbia, and The Ring. Beyond scary movies, you can now stream popular titles like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Coneheads, Forrest Gump, GoodFellas, Inglourious Basterds, and Paddington. For the holidays, they’ve also added festive favorites such as the 1984 version of A Christmas Carol, Ernest Saves Christmas, both versions of Miracle on 34th Street (1947 & 1994), and Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights.
