After a successful year for horror films like Sinners and The Conjuring: Last Rites, 2026 promises to be another big one. The next year is packed with exciting new movies and continuations of popular franchises, including 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Robert Eggers’ Werwulf, and Sam Raimi’s Send Help. And just in time, fans can now stream a highly-regarded horror trilogy on Paramount+ as one of the series returns to cinemas next month.
With just over a month until Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27th, fans can now rewatch the original Scream movies. The first three films, directed by Wes Craven, became available on Paramount+ on January 1st, bringing the entire horror series to one place. These films follow Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) as they repeatedly face off against the infamous Ghostface killer.
Scream Is the Horror Franchise That Keeps Going Strong
Most horror franchises have a mix of good and bad movies, but Scream stands out as consistently strong throughout its series. Even the weaker installments are still enjoyable, and the original three Scream movies are particularly well-regarded, despite Scream 3 generally being considered the least favorite.
As a horror fan, one of the things I really appreciate about the Scream franchise is how it’s always respected its own history. So many long-running horror series just restart or change things to fit new ideas, but Scream has kept everything connected. That’s created a really rich world with characters and stories that have evolved over decades. And it hasn’t been afraid to change with the times, either! It constantly pokes fun at horror tropes and adapts to what’s scary now, which is a big reason why movies like Scream 4 and the recent ones have been so successful. Throw in a fantastic final girl like Sidney, the instantly recognizable Ghostface, clever mysteries, shocking twists, and a perfect blend of scares and humor, and it’s easy to see why Scream is still captivating audiences as it heads towards its 30th anniversary.
What’s New on Paramount+?
Paramount+ has a lot of exciting movies to stream this January, starting with the first three Scream films. Once you’ve watched those, you might enjoy the hilarious horror spoofs Scary Movie and Scary Movie 3, which playfully poke fun at movies like Scream. But Paramount+ offers more than just scares! You can also find a variety of other titles, including action-packed movies like Baby Driver and Spider-Man: Homecoming, plus comedies like Pixels and Zoolander 2.
