Paramount+ Shakes Up Sylvester Stallone’s Crime Drama With Big Season 5 Change

Taylor Sheridan is creating a successful universe of shows at Paramount+, and they’re continuing to do well even as he’s moving to Universal. One of these shows stars Sylvester Stallone.

The show is expected to return for a fourth season later this year, but it hasn’t been renewed for a fifth season yet. Despite starting work on the fourth season without a lead director, there’s a possibility of another big change: reports suggest that if a fifth season is made, production will move from its current location to New York.

Tulsa King Had Multiple Filming Locations

The first season, shot in 2022, took place in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Bethany, with a few scenes filmed in Brooklyn, New York. From season two onward, production moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

While Tulsa King hasn’t been officially renewed for a fifth season, if it’s made, filming will likely move from Oklahoma to New York. This decision is driven by both cost savings and the show’s storyline. Season 4 has finished filming, and the writers are already working on Season 5. New York’s improved film tax incentives, thanks to Governor Kathy Hochul, are a major draw for Paramount+, and they plan to take advantage of the benefits.

I’m really excited about the show’s connection to New York! It’s cool to learn that Stallone’s character, Dwight Manfredi – they call him ‘The General’ – is actually from New York originally. He got kicked out to Oklahoma by his Mafia buddies, which is a great backstory. We haven’t heard much about Season 4 yet, but I’m hoping he’ll finally go back home and deal with some of the people he left behind. It would be awesome to see that play out!

The crew of Tulsa King in Atlanta numbers around 250, and a large number of them have worked on the show since it began. However, the production faced some challenges, including a temporary shutdown that affected around 24 people, including Freddie Poole, a stunt double and coordinator who has worked with Sylvester Stallone for many years.

Tulsa King Is a Major Hit

Even though production wasn’t always smooth, Tulsa King has become a quiet success for Paramount+, and critics have given it positive reviews. Over its first three seasons, the show boasts an 87% approval rating from critics and a 75% audience score.

A new series called Frisco King, a spinoff of Tulsa King, is in development. Samuel L. Jackson will play the main character, Russell Lee Washington, who shares similarities with Sylvester Stallone’s character from the original show. Originally announced in September 2024 as NOLA King and planned to take place in New Orleans, the show’s location and title were later changed to Frisco, Texas.

Sylvester Stallone revealed on social media, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo with Jamie Foxx, that they are working on a new project called Frisco King. Currently, there’s no information about when the film will be released.

Tulsa King Season 4 is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2026.
