‘Partnering with PS Studios Has Empowered Us’: Sony Steps Up Investment in Kena’s PS5 Sequel

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was a key game for the PlayStation 5, and Sony heavily promoted it to make sure it did well.

Following last week’s State of Play announcement for its sequel, Scars of Kosmora, PlayStation has increased its support for the game by adding it to the PS Studios family. Although the developer, Ember Lab, will still operate independently, the game will now be treated as a first-party title, similar to games like Lost Soul Aside, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Stellar Blade.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, co-founder Josh Grier expressed excitement about PlayStation’s involvement and its positive impact on the game.

Working with PlayStation Studios has really let us expand the world in our game – we’re focusing on making each area feel carefully designed and rewarding to explore, with a real sense of adventure. We’re so hyped to show you more soon and can’t wait for you to play it! We were blown away by how much people enjoyed Bridge of Spirits, and we’re hoping to build on everything you loved about that game and deliver something even better this time around.

The game certainly looks like a massive step forward in terms of variety, visual detail, and scale.

This time around, gameplay is significantly enhanced with elemental infusions. You’ll unlock these by finding Spirit Companions as you progress through the story.

Genshin Impact offers a helpful comparison, even though it’s a different type of game. It encourages players to combine different elements for stronger attacks – like using fire with grass to make burn effects more powerful.

I’m so hyped for this game coming out later this year! It feels like a really important release for the PS5. I’m especially curious to see what Ember Lab can achieve now that they have a bigger budget – I have a feeling it’s going to be something special!
