Patrick Mahomes’ Mom Randi Has Entered the Debate About Trans Athletes

Randi Mahomes, the mom of NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, shared her thoughts on the ongoing discussion regarding athletes who identify as trans in competitive sports.

In various co-ed sports teams throughout my life, spanning both my girlhood and womanhood, I’ve noticed a substantial distinction between male and female participants, as I expressed during the “MOMetize Your Passion” podcast on June 23. To me, it doesn’t seem equitable to compete head-to-head. (age: 53)

Randi explained she’s “okay” with trans people existing, insisting, “I love everyone.”

As an advocate for fairness, I’ve always believed in equal opportunities. However, I haven’t actively campaigned for transgender athletes to be included in sports categories that align with their identified gender, competing alongside and against cisgender peers of the same gender.

As a lifestyle authority, I firmly believe that nature’s blueprint for physical prowess isn’t always equitable. Being a parent to both daughters and sons, I can attest that at similar life stages, their physical abilities often diverge significantly.

She stated, “Indeed, during certain stages of their lives, they’re on par. For instance, at age 2, 3, 4, or 5, they share the same status. However, as they grow and mature, differences become apparent.

Randi is the mother of Patrick, aged 29, and Jackson, 25. These sons were shared with her former husband, Patrick Mahomes, Sr., whom she divorced in 2006.

She later welcomed a daughter, Mia, 13, from a separate relationship after her divorce.

Randi proposed establishing a “league open to all transgender individuals where they can engage in a level playing field for games or activities.

“I just think that women need to be with women, and men need to be with men,” she said.

In April 2023, geneticist Dr. Eric Vilain expressed opposition to the concept of a competitive edge for trans athletes during a conversation on the NPR podcast “Short Wave.

Vilain stated, “The main issue isn’t just about having an edge over competitors, it’s about whether trans athletes have an unfair advantage compared to cis athletes. This unfair advantage can stem from various factors such as genetic differences, metabolic variations, physical traits, height, and access to superior nutrition, coaching, and training equipment.

During a recent podcast interview hosted by Tirralan Watkins, Randi, the founder of the newly-established Sports Parent Academy, was asked whether she would be willing to assist any transgender athlete who wished to join her program.

Randi mentioned that if anyone required assistance, this could be a place to seek help,” she said. “Since we’re constantly expanding our resources, it’s possible we’ll consider adding such an option.

As stated on its website, the Sports Parents Academy serves as an all-encompassing online course that guides parents of young athletes through every developmental phase, from toddlerhood to professional levels. By combining professional knowledge with real-life experiences, this course functions as a valuable resource for families navigating a similar athletic journey.

The prices of our top-tier classes vary between $245 and $447. If you’re interested in the premium option, it will cost you $1,497, while the VIP package is offered at $3,749.
