According to recent gossip, it’s been hinted that a villain from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) will appear in Peacemaker Season 2. The DCEU is a movie universe based on DC characters and narratives, which began with Man of Steel in 2013 and ended with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. On the other hand, the DCU refers to the ongoing series inspired by DC Comics.
Enchantress from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad possibly exists in DCU
In a post on platform X (previously known as Twitter), the industry insider @MyTimeToShineH revealed that in Peacemaker Season 2, Rick Flag Jr. references his girlfriend June Moone (Enchantress). This connection suggests that some events from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad might align with the DC Universe to a certain extent.
In the 2016 superhero film “Suicide Squad,” Cara Delevingne plays Dr. June Moone / The Enchantress. Joel Kinnaman’s character, Rick Flag Jr., has romantic feelings for June, and this relationship significantly impacts the storyline. If what @MyTimeToShineH claims is true, it implies that The Enchantress is a part of the DC Universe.
In simpler terms, the more recent franchise shares similarities with a fresh start for the DCEU. The initial series of Peacemaker, released in 2021 under the guidance of James Gunn, who is one of the leaders of DCU and also the creator of Peacemaker, serves as a spin-off from The Suicide Squad.
While it may seem that the second season is connected to the DCEU, a significant change occurs in the first episode titled “The Ties That Grind.” This alteration affects several aspects related to the DCEU. Instead of featuring the Justice League, this episode presents the DCU’s Justice Gang, including Superman and Supergirl, as the main characters. In other words, the events depicted in this season deviate from those of the DCEU’s first season.
Previously, Gunn moved John Cena’s character Christopher Smith/Peacemaker from the DCEU to the DCU and hinted at introducing Idris Elba’s Bloodsport in the emerging universe too. This suggests that Cara Delevingne might return to her role as June Moone in the future.
Peacemaker Season 2 airs weekly on HBO Max on Thursdays.
