Regardless of the current shifts happening in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, one constant remains – John Cena returns to reprise his role as Peacemaker.
After a short appearance in this summer’s popular Superman film, the former wrestler has once again taken up his character in the second season of the acclaimed series centered around the main superhero. The debut episode can currently be streamed on Sky Max and NOW.
Absolutely, reflecting on his tenure as director of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s one aspect that James Gunn truly shines in – the art of carefully selecting hit songs, or “needle drops.” Based on the first episode of the new season, it seems fans are in for another amazing sonic journey.
Consider this: James Gunn, the mastermind behind DC films, expresses a strong desire to re-film parts of Peacemaker’s first season to align with the updated continuity.
Alongside numerous standout tracks across all episodes, the latest season introduces a fresh theme tune. Instead of “Do You Wanna Taste It” by Norwegian glam rock band Wig Wam, the energetic 2010 hit “Oh Lord” by the American rock group Foxy Shazam is now played during the opening dance number.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Gunn personally revealed a new figure, expressing his band, Foxy Shazam, as his top favorite worldwide and even going so far as to claim them as “the best rock ‘n’ roll band objectively on the planet.
Later on, he shared with The Wrap his thoughts: “I believe the lyrics truly reflect what transpires in season 2. Just as Do Ya Wanna Taste It perfectly encapsulated the essence, encompassing both the bright and the ominous aspects of Season 1, Oh Lord does the same.”
