There’s still a chance for a third season of Peacemaker, according to Jennifer Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt and is married to the show’s creator, James Gunn. Viewers are excited to find out what happens next after the season 2 finale left Peacemaker trapped in a metahuman prison by Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., while his team, the 11th Street Kids, began forming Checkmate. Although the series was intended to lead into the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow, many fans are hoping James Gunn will create another season.
Jennifer Holland, who plays a lead role in Peacemaker, recently spoke with MUSE TV at the 53rd Saturn Awards about the show’s future. While a third season was previously considered improbable, she discussed the possibilities.
She began by reminding everyone how James Gunn’s DC Universe is designed with stories that connect and build on each other. However, she clarified that you won’t need to watch every project to follow along.
DC Comics has a lot happening right now, which can be confusing. Many of their stories are connected, and they’re creating a lot of different projects at once. The problem is, you often need to follow everything to fully understand the bigger picture.
It appeared that Season 3 of Peacemaker could explore events leading up to the Season 2 finale, potentially connecting to other projects within the DC Universe and building on the cliffhanger ending.
The future of Peacemaker Season 3 seems to depend a lot on events that could happen beforehand, so we’ll have to wait and see how things unfold.
So, everyone was asking me about a potential Season 3 of Peacemaker around the time the finale dropped. I gave the classic “never say never” answer, but honestly, right now, the finale is really about setting things up for the bigger DC Universe and what comes next with other characters and storylines. It’s less about immediately continuing Peacemaker‘s story, and more about the overall picture.
This isn’t just about this particular story; it’s about the bigger DC Universe and how things will unfold moving forward. While I’m not ruling anything out completely, our focus right now is on the future of the DCU, and this character is a key part of that future.
A lot of viewers thought the second season of Peacemaker was hinting at James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. With Lex Luthor and Rick Flag Sr., the villains from the Salvation group in Peacemaker, both set to appear prominently in the Superman sequel, it seems likely that Salvation will be important to the story.
Recent reports suggest John Cena’s Peacemaker could return to the DC Universe in 2027, appearing in the film Man of Tomorrow after a brief appearance in Superman and his second season on HBO Max. If these reports are accurate, the movie might finally release Peacemaker from the alternate-universe prison he’s currently trapped in.
Will Peacemaker Season 3 Actually Ever Happen?

I was thrilled to hear Jennifer Holland mention at the Saturn Awards that, even though James Gunn might play it cool, Peacemaker is actually his favorite DC project! It makes me feel a lot better about the show’s future. It sounds like once the story with the Salvation arc wraps up – maybe in another movie or show – we could definitely see him return to Peacemaker at some point. Fingers crossed!
James Gunn’s increasing responsibilities overseeing the DC Universe have caused him to reduce his direct involvement in specific shows. He didn’t write the second season of Creature Commandos after writing all episodes of the first season. He also directed fewer episodes of Peacemaker’s second season – three, compared to five in the first season – to focus on his broader DCU duties.
James Gunn obviously loves Peacemaker and the team he’s built, but his new job leading DC Studios might require him to focus on larger, more important projects. He may also be reluctant to hand the show over to another director, even if that’s what it would take to get a third season made, because he cares so much about the people involved.
Don’t expect a third season of Peacemaker very soon. James Gunn is committed to Man of Tomorrow until July 2027. Plus, the recent sale of Warner Bros. to Paramount raises questions about the future of the DC Universe, though the current plans from DC Studios seem secure for now.
