A surprising discovery in Peacemaker‘s second season unveiled the newest version of “Earth-X” when Chris Smith saw the American flag with a Nazi swastika on it. This changed how we see the bright, seemingly perfect alternate world where Chris’s brother and father were still living – the family he always dreamed of. Although the “Top Trio” appear to be the strongest and most well-liked heroes on Earth-X, the last two episodes might feature an even more significant DC Universe guest appearance than Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor.
What Is Earth-X and Which ‘Heroes’ Could Appear on Peacemaker’s Final Episodes?
Earth-X was first presented in 1973 as a two-part Justice League of America story. In it, the Justice League and the Justice Society journeyed to Earth-X to assist Golden Age heroes. Characters such as Uncle Sam and the Ray called upon DC’s greatest heroes for help. The story concludes with Red Tornado venturing into space to destroy a “mind control ray” on a satellite-which housed a robotic Adolf Hitler-that was being used to control the planet. This original version of Earth-X didn’t feature evil counterparts of famous DC heroes. However, when the concept was revisited, that element was added.
Thirty years later, in 2007, Grant Morrison presented “Earth Ten,” a new take on the idea of alternate realities, featuring villainous counterparts to well-known DC heroes. The most prominent was “Ubermensch,” also known as “Overman,” a corrupted version of Superman. This concept resurfaced following the Flashpoint event in 2011. Alongside the evil Superman, there were twisted versions of characters like Wonder Woman/Brunhilde, Aquaman/Underwaterman, and the Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl. This time, however, there wasn’t a “mind control ray” used to justify why these DC heroes had become evil.
Peacemaker isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of alternate reality come to life. Back in 2017, there was a similar story, also titled Justice League of America, inspired by the 1973 comic. That story featured villainous versions of many DC heroes from those shows, and some didn’t survive. Although the DCU doesn’t have as many well-known characters as the Arrowverse yet, it’s likely James Gunn and his team drew inspiration from this previous crossover event. He probably won’t immediately introduce characters like the Flash or Hal Jordan as their evil, Nazi counterparts, but we might see them make a quick appearance as a nod to fans.
Gunn Poured Cold Water on David Corenswet’s Appearance, but Another Actor Could Still Appear
The most noticeable cameo appearance could be David Corenswet playing Overman, particularly since he’s already portrayed a character *other than* Kal-El in Superman. Originally created by Morrison in 2011, “Kal-L” was a Kryptonian sent to Earth who landed in Nazi Germany back in 1938.
He transformed into Overman, becoming the face of the worldwide fascist power that controlled the planet. He, along with his advanced Kryptonian technology, was blamed for the Nazis winning the war on Earth-X. However, the children from 11th Street won’t have to worry about an evil Superman in addition to dealing with Chris’s father and brother as they attempt to reach the main DC Universe. “David was really disappointed that Nick was cast on the show and he wasn’t. It simply didn’t feel right. I needed Lex to be involved to fulfill a particular role.”
Although fans won’t see another version of Corenswet’s Superman, other characters from the DCU may appear. Gunn recently revealed Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El at the end of Superman and before her official introduction in the 2026 film Supergirl. Similar to how the Arrowverse operated, Peacemaker might introduce Overgirl instead of Overman. In the comic books, she was created as a clone of Overman and was considered his cousin. She also met her end in those stories (hinting at ). Sending Overgirl to battle the invaders from other dimensions could be a logical choice, particularly since Alcock was in Atlanta during the filming of both Superman and the show.
It’s understandable that stronger metahumans on Earth-X, like Overman, Overgirl, and others, wouldn’t concern themselves with smaller heroic acts like those of the Top Trio. These more powerful “heroes” would focus on dealing with groups challenging their authority, such as the Sons of Liberty, or any other dangers to their control. Auggie, Keith, and the Earth-X version of Chris would take care of typical “superhero” duties because they enjoy the praise and recognition it brings. But if news of invaders from other dimensions reaches the Earth-X leadership, Overgirl might be sent to eliminate them.
Could Overman, Overgirl or Earth-X Have a Future in the DCU Beyond Peacemaker?
Recent stories featuring Earth-X prominently feature Overgirl’s death as a central plot point. If Peacemaker Season 2 includes Milly Alcock as Overgirl, her character could potentially die-likely due to a stroke of luck for the 11th Street Kids. Should she appear, it would probably be a brief cameo designed to create suspense as Peacemaker and his team try to return to their own dimension. Considering they might eliminate Auggie and Keith, it’s logical that whoever is in charge on Earth-X would dispatch a powerful adversary after them. Overgirl’s death would undoubtedly draw the notice of Overman and others.
During that same interview where he stated Corenswet wouldn’t appear in Peacemaker, Gunn also discussed the future of Earth-X within the DCU. He was questioned about how significant a role it would have in upcoming stories. “Not much,” he replied. “It isn’t a central element of the storytelling. That’s really about Peacemaker.” Nevertheless, Earth-X is now officially part of the DCU’s established history, and the 11th Street Kids caused a forceful intrusion into this reality. Gunn might be focusing on other projects, like Man of Tomorrow, but the groundwork has been laid for another creator to continue these storylines, potentially through animation or a video game.
It’s very unlikely that Overgirl will be in Peacemaker Season 2. If James Gunn wasn’t able to include her with Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, the same might be true for Milly Alcock, particularly since her role in Superman was just a quick appearance. However, it’s not impossible, especially if the show needs a villain stronger than Auggie or Keith to force Peacemaker and his team back to their universe.
As a huge DC fan, I’ve been thinking about Earth-X, and even if we don’t see any more cameos from that universe on our screens, it’s still officially part of the DCU! James Gunn has always been upfront about planning things out, but he’s also said he’s willing to consider anything if the story is compelling. The Clayface movie is a perfect example of that flexibility. So, even if Peacemaker doesn’t revisit Earth-X, I wouldn’t rule out a future DCU project diving deep into that world. It’s definitely still on the table!
The last two episodes of Peacemaker will be available on HBO Max on Thursday, October 2nd, and Thursday, October 9th, 2025.
