Peacemaker star John Cena is opening up about his brief cameo in James Gunn’s Superman movie.
Currently, Superman is gracing the screens in cinemas across the United States. This film, helmed by Gunn, is a production of DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. The main character, played by David Corenswet, is our titular superhero. Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult portrays Lex Luthor, with additional notable actors contributing as well.
In the film, there’s a quick appearance by John Cena playing his character Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, who is shown on a news program making fun of Superman. Later, Peacemaker will reappear in season 2, which is part of the DC Universe and will be available to stream on HBO Max starting August 21, 2025.
What did John Cena say about Peacemaker’s Superman cameo?
On Peacemaker’s Twitter feed, a fresh video emerged featuring Cena sharing insights about his time filming Superman and the story behind how his guest appearance materialized.
He mentioned that he was brought on board just before the start of Peacemaker Season 2 production, ‘I was responsible for fitting the costumes for the new season’s wardrobe – let me drop a hint: there are some exciting changes coming! – and at the same time they were shooting Superman. James Gunn asked if I’d like to be part of it, and I couldn’t resist. So I got to chat about Superman on a popular talk show.
It’s advantageous that James Gunn, the writer and director of Superman, also heads DC. This means he’s among a select few whose calls I eagerly answer. When he does call, I respond promptly with, ‘What can I do for you?’ And indeed, he is one.
When queried about what makes Superman so memorable, Cena replied, “I believe it’s due to the strong branding and concept of an authentic superhero. Since tales of right and wrong need a starting point, I consider Superman as the fundamental piece in establishing this narrative.
