Sam Raimi is a major Hollywood director known for working in many different genres, including horror. He first gained recognition in the 1980s with the *Evil Dead* films, which helped launch his career and led to directing big-budget blockbusters later on. Raimi revisited horror in 2009 with a fantastic, but often overlooked, movie that many consider one of his best. It’s now available to stream on Peacock, but be prepared – the ending is quite intense!
Peacock is now streaming Drag Me to Hell, a scary movie directed by Sam Raimi. The film follows Alison Lohman as a loan officer whose life turns upside down when she’s cursed by an elderly woman she evicts. She has only three days to break the curse and avoid a terrifying fate. The movie also stars Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, David Paymer, and Adriana Barraza. It became available on the streaming service on September 1st.
Why You Should Watch Drag Me to Hell
Sam Raimi is famous for films like *Evil Dead*, but *Drag Me to Hell* is arguably one of his strongest horror movies. After directing the *Spider-Man* trilogy, Raimi returned to horror with this film, and it really shows his talent for the genre. *Drag Me to Hell* is a thrilling and fun horror story that perfectly balances genuine scares with dark humor and over-the-top moments. With building tension, unexpected twists, gruesome effects, and a fantastic finale, it’s a wild ride from start to finish.
If you’re looking for a scary movie this Halloween, don’t miss *Drag Me to Hell*! While it was a big hit when it came out, it’s been a bit forgotten since, especially with director Sam Raimi’s more recent films getting more attention. Critics loved it – it currently has a 92% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes – calling it a “frightening, hilarious, and delightfully over-the-top” thrill ride. Audiences agreed, giving it a 62% rating. The movie was also a financial success, earning $90.8 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and even winning a Saturn Award for Best Horror Film. There’s been some talk of a sequel, but nothing is confirmed yet.
Other Horror Movies Now on Peacock
As a huge horror fan, I was thrilled to see Peacock add a ton of scary movies to their lineup this September! They’ve got some real classics like *The Birds* and *The Sixth Sense*, alongside newer stuff like *Cult of Chucky*. I’m especially excited to revisit *Drag Me to Hell*, but there’s also *The Creature Walks Among Us* and *Halloween III: Season of the Witch*, plus *The Haunting in Connecticut* – basically a whole month of chills for subscribers!
Peacock is going all-in on horror for Halloween this year! They’ve announced a spooky lineup of movies coming in October 2025, starting with titles like *Krampus* and *The Purge* available on October 1st. Fans can also look forward to the first three *Scream* films, the classic *The Wolf Man* (from 1941), and *Edward Scissorhands*.
