Over the coming weeks, Peacock plans to introduce two highly anticipated movies from 2025 for streaming, making them available for subscribers before anyone else. It was recently announced that the live-action version of “How to Train Your Dragon” will make its debut on the platform in October. Interestingly, just yesterday it was disclosed that one of the year’s most debated horror films is also slated to join Peacock, but unlike the peaceful dragons, this one will be arriving a few weeks earlier.
The long-awaited sequel to M3GAN, titled M3GAN 2.0, is all set to debut on Peacock streaming platform, exactly three months following its initial theater release. In two weeks’ time, starting from September 26th (a Friday), the much-hyped continuation of M3GAN will be accessible for streaming. Additionally, an unrated version of the movie will also be streamable on the same day.
Why Is M3GAN 2.0 Controversial?
One contentious approach in creating horror sequels is to entirely forgo the major aspects of the initial film, opting instead for something entirely fresh. While these decisions might be brilliant creatively, they often stir up a great deal of discussion among fans. Take, for instance, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which was initially panned for discarding the Michael Myers narrative completely, but has since gained immense popularity. Similarly, Halloween Ends, released a couple of years back, left out many desired elements from the franchise, resulting in significant criticism from fans.
In simpler terms, “M3GAN 2.0” deviated significantly from typical horror sequels, taking on a comedic tone reminiscent of an offbeat action-focused spin-off in a humorous alternate version of the “Terminator” series rather than a spooky continuation of M3GAN’s AI warning story. This dramatic shift towards more action led to mixed reactions from viewers and critics, ultimately resulting in less-than-expected success at the box office.
Following the unexpected success of the initial M3GAN movie, which grossed an impressive $181 million at the box office, the much-anticipated sequel, M3GAN 2.0, fell short upon its release, earning only about $39 million in theaters. Perhaps its streaming availability on Peacock will expand its reach to a broader audience.
New Horror Movies on Peacock
As the spooky season begins, Peacock is increasing its collection of horror movies. In fact, they added a massive number of horror films on September 1st, surpassing other streaming services in terms of quantity for this month, thereby expanding their scary movie choices.
Among the freshly introduced horror movies now available on Peacock are classics like “The Birds,” “Child’s Play,” “Goosebumps,” “Halloween II” and “III: Season of the Witch,” as well as “Zombieland,” “Scream 4,” “The Thing,” “The Sixth Sense,” “The Mummy,” “Psycho,” “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” and numerous others.
In the coming month, the horrifying additions will persist, as Peacock has already unveiled some of its October 1st plans. Starting from October 1st, the service is set to introduce several titles from the “Friday the 13th” series, “American Psycho”, “Ghostbusters”, “The Omen”, “Leprechaun”, “The Skeleton Key”, “Shaun of the Dead”, the initial three “Scream” films, and numerous others.
