Peacock Finally Streaming One of the Best Comic Book Movies Ever (But Don’t Bother With the Sequels)

A fresh month means new films and series on your go-to streaming platform, and with Halloween approaching, there are even more additions than normal. Peacock isn’t just adding a lot of new movies this month, including many spooky picks for the season, but also upcoming 2025 releases like How to Train Your Dragon. However, one of the most exciting new additions to Peacock this month isn’t a horror film-it’s actually a great movie to watch in October. Plus, it’s considered one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, and many people who grew up in the ’90s still love it.

While Peacock offers a few animated Marvel series, it largely lacks comic book movies-with one notable exception: the classic The Crow from 1994. Directed by Alex Proyas and adapted from James O’Barr’s comic book, The Crow features the late Brandon Lee-son of Bruce Lee-in a role that brought him fame but was also tragically cut short. Despite the sad story surrounding the film, The Crow is still considered a must-see and a significant part of comic book movie history.

Why You Should Watch The Crow

As a huge fan of the original comic, let me tell you about The Crow. It’s the story of Eric, a really hopeful guy deeply in love, who tragically gets killed along with his wife. But that’s not the end! He comes back to life with some seriously cool new abilities. Fueled by a desire for revenge and his newfound powers, he goes after the men who destroyed his life, and along the way, he reconnects with people he used to know. It’s a dark and gripping tale, and honestly, it really stuck with me. I highly recommend it!

The story is excellent, but it’s Brandon Lee’s portrayal of Eric that truly makes The Crow so powerful. He brilliantly captures the character’s mix of despair and fury as someone returned from the dead, creating a uniquely memorable performance. Sadly, Lee died during filming, and this has given his work in the movie even greater significance since its release.

The Crow is a masterfully written screenplay and boasts a striking visual style from director Proyas, making it one of the most visually impressive comic book movies ever (especially considering it was made before widespread use of green screen or CGI, achieving its dark, rainy, film noir look entirely through practical effects). When it comes to pure visual artistry, no other comic book adaptation before or since has matched its level of skill, particularly given that it was all done without digital enhancements like in The Crow.

The success of The Crow in 1994 led to the comic book being developed into a complete franchise. After the first film, a separate sequel, The Crow: City of Angels, was released in cinemas, but it received very negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office. Afterwards, two more films were released directly to video: The Crow: Salvation in 2000 and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005-the latter of which has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most recently, a reboot of The Crow came out in 2024, starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, and many would prefer not to discuss it at all.

New Movies Streaming on Peacock

As Halloween approaches in just a few weeks, Peacock has become a top spot for streaming scary movies. They’ve recently added titles like American Psycho, Friday the 13th 1 – 3, Fright Night, and From Dusk Till Dawn, plus the first two Ghostbusters films, Stephen King’s The Mist, the initial four Scream movies, and even World War Z.

Peacock offers more than just horror films this October. The streaming service has also added popular movies like Fright Night Lights, Darkman, Hot Fuzz, and all three films in the How to Train Your Dragon series.
