Peacock Is About To Lose Jason Momoa’s Hit Apple TV Show

Jason Momoa has become a huge star since first gaining recognition as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. He’s now leading major films like Aquaman and Fast X, and recently starred in a popular historical drama that premiered on Apple TV in 2025. If you’re a Peacock subscriber, you’ll want to watch it soon before it’s no longer available.

Many fans consider Jason Momoa’s series Chief of War to be his best work. It originally premiered on Apple TV in August, and the first three episodes became available on Peacock through a recent partnership between the two streaming services. However, those initial episodes will be removed from Peacock on January 31st. Momoa not only stars as Kaʻiana, a Hawaiian war chief, but also co-created and executive produced the historical drama. The series tells the story of how the Hawaiian Islands were unified and colonized in the late 1700s, told from the perspective of the native Hawaiian people, as Kaʻiana tries to bring the islands together while facing a new danger.

Chief of War Is One of the Best New Historical Dramas

Historical dramas like Shōgun, The Gilded Age, Bridgerton, and The Great have been incredibly popular in recent years, and Chief of War quickly became a standout in the genre. It immediately reached the top of Apple TV’s most-watched list and received rave reviews from both critics and viewers. With a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics – even surpassing Game of Thrones‘ 89% – and an 84% audience score, Chief of War is one of Jason Momoa’s most critically acclaimed projects to date.

Many viewers and critics believe this series is among Jason Momoa’s best work. It’s been widely praised for its accurate and immersive portrayal of a culture often overlooked or misrepresented in mainstream Hollywood. The series prioritizes authentic storytelling from an indigenous point of view, successfully transporting the audience to another time and place. As Callie Hanna of FandomWire put it, the show offers a rich, complex, and genuinely human look at a culture that’s frequently ignored or distorted. Critics have compared its grand scale and compelling narrative to the series Shōgun. Rohan Naahar of The Indian Express described it as another example of Apple’s commitment to creating high-quality, epic television reminiscent of HBO’s golden age, calling it “epic and exotic; daring yet dignified.”

Where to Stream Chief of War After It Leaves Peacock?

Only three episodes of Chief of War were shown to viewers with the Apple TV and Peacock package, and they were always meant to be temporary. Despite being removed from Peacock, all nine episodes of Chief of War‘s first season are still available to stream on Apple TV. While the series hasn’t been officially renewed, actor Sibbett is optimistic about its future, telling Town & Country that the story “just picks up; it just gets bigger and bigger,” and they are eager to continue it if given the chance.
