Robert Downey Jr. is best known for playing Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – a role that launched him to international fame over the course of ten films, starting with the original Iron Man in 2008 and concluding with Avengers: Endgame in 2019. With his return to Marvel as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, fans have a limited time to watch his first movie after leaving the MCU, currently streaming on Peacock.
Stephen Gaghan’s 2020 film Dolittle, based on the classic stories by Hugh Lofting, will soon be removed from Peacock. While the exact date isn’t known, movies on this list usually leave the service at the end of the month. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Dolittle, a lonely veterinarian in Wales who can talk to animals. He’s called back into the world for a dangerous sea voyage to find a cure for Queen Victoria’s illness.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Dolittle Is a High-Energy Animal Adventure Perfect for Kids
While Dolittle isn’t a cinematic masterpiece – critics haven’t been kind, giving it a low 15% rating – that doesn’t mean it’s not worth watching. It’s a perfectly enjoyable, lighthearted, and silly adventure that kids will likely love. Surprisingly, audiences seem to enjoy it much more, with a respectable 76% approval rating.
As a movie lover, I found this film really draws you in with its lighthearted and playful feel. The adventure Dolittle and his animal companions embark on is consistently entertaining, with lots of exciting moments kids will adore – think ship battles and even a dragon! Beyond the action, it’s a sweet story about friendship, adventure, and dealing with loss, making it a genuinely feel-good movie for younger audiences. Visually, the world is stunning, especially all the charming talking animals, and the voice cast is fantastic – they really bring those animal personalities to life. Now, it might not be Robert Downey Jr.’s most iconic performance, but he’s definitely fun and energetic as Dolittle, making him a really quirky and enjoyable character.
Where to Stream Dolittle After It Leaves Peacock?
As a movie critic, I’m keeping an eye on where you can watch Dolittle. Right now, it’s streaming on Peacock, but with streaming services constantly changing things up, that could change. I checked the March lineups for most major platforms, and Dolittle isn’t listed anywhere…yet. A couple of streamers haven’t announced their full March schedules, so there’s still a possibility it’ll pop up somewhere else. If it does leave Peacock next month, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to rent or buy it digitally.
