Peacock is building a strong sci-fi collection, with popular titles like the movie M3gan and the series Continuum. They’ve recently added a famously unsuccessful sci-fi film that’s still worth checking out. Throughout December, the streaming service has added a lot of content, including 10 Cloverfield Lane, Gladiator, and all the Rocky movies. Among the new additions is a ten-year-old movie that critics didn’t like (it only has an 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), but it’s now available to stream.
Starting December 1st, you can stream Adam Sandler’s movie Pixels on Peacock. This sci-fi comedy, directed by Chris Columbus and written by Tim Herlihy and Tim Dowling, features an alien invasion where the aliens mistake classic arcade games for a threat. A team of old-school arcade game champions must then come together to save the planet.
Pixels Is a Perfect Guilty Pleasure Movie
Okay, let’s be real – Pixels isn’t exactly a cinematic masterpiece. The critics definitely weren’t kind, and even audiences were pretty lukewarm. But honestly? I had a blast! It’s not a film you watch for a deep story or clever sci-fi. It’s pure, silly fun – the kind of movie you grab popcorn for and just switch your brain off. It’s got a great idea at its heart, but the script feels a bit like classic Adam Sandler – lots of goofy jokes and things that don’t quite make sense. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and sometimes, that’s exactly what you want!
Despite a promising idea, the movie doesn’t quite live up to its full potential. However, it’s still an enjoyable and visually impressive experience, especially for anyone who grew up with classic arcade games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Centipede. The film’s creative visuals, exciting action, and special effects effectively bring 8-bit characters into a 3D world. With a fun and lighthearted approach, it’s a thoroughly entertaining guilty pleasure that perhaps didn’t receive the credit it deserved.
Despite being a major box office disappointment, the movie Pixels has surprisingly found an audience on streaming services. It recently climbed into the top 5 on HBO Max worldwide in June. While it hasn’t cracked the top 10 on Peacock yet, its reputation as a famously bad (but strangely watchable) film suggests it could appear on the streaming charts soon. In fact, Pixels has a history of performing well on Peacock, previously reaching the Top 10 during a previous streaming run in May.

December started with popular films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, both The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, the complete Bill & Ted trilogy, The Martian, Pacific Rim, and Unaccompanied Minors. Later in December, you can also look forward to Renfield (December 9th), The Fabelmans (December 11th), and all the movies in the Saw series.
