DreamWorks Animation is known for creating incredibly popular animated franchises, and now many of their films are available on Peacock. The streaming service recently added a bunch of new titles – including movies like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and The Maze Runner – and one of DreamWorks’ biggest box office hits is now among them.
Released on January 1st, Shrek Forever After is now available to stream on Peacock. The 2010 film earned $756 million worldwide, making it DreamWorks’ fourth most successful movie ever. It’s the fourth and latest installment in the Shrek series, bringing back Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz as the voices of Shrek and his friends. In the movie, Shrek wishes he could be a “real” ogre again and makes a deal with the tricky Rumpelstiltskin. With almost the entire Shrek franchise now streaming in one place, fans can enjoy the films while they wait for Shrek 5; the only movie missing is the spin-off, Puss in Boots.
Shrek Forever After Is Still a Massive Hit Despite Mixed Reviews
While Shrek Forever After earned enough money to become one of DreamWorks’ five highest-grossing films, it wasn’t a critical success. Both critics and audiences gave the movie mixed reviews, and its scores on Rotten Tomatoes – 58% from critics and 54% from audiences – make it the second-lowest-rated film in the Shrek series.
While the movie was a step up from the franchise’s low point, Shrek the Third, it still struggled with audiences feeling tired of the series. It didn’t quite recapture the cleverness and charm of the first Shrek film. Many found the humor predictable and the story uninspired, despite a lively villain in Rumpelstiltskin and some genuinely touching moments.
Despite not receiving universal praise, Shrek Forever After remains incredibly popular. The movie consistently performs well on streaming services, quickly rising to the top of the charts whenever it’s added. This is happening again on Peacock, where Shrek Forever After entered the Top 10 at number 5 just one day after becoming available and has since climbed to number 2. It’s currently only behind Bugonia and is more popular than other animated hits like Despicable Me 4, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Shark Tale, and The Croods: A New Age.
What’s New on Peacock?
I’m really enjoying what Peacock is building! They’ve added a ton of great movies this month, which is perfect for family nights. My kids and I are excited to watch classics like All Dogs Go to Heaven, the whole How to Train Your Dragon series, and Little Giants – that one brings back memories! And for me, they’ve got some fantastic choices too, like The Da Vinci Code, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Mad Max, and The Tomorrow War. It’s becoming a must-have streaming service!
