Peacock Just Added One of the Best Movies of 2024

2026 promises a lot of exciting new movies in theaters, including the next installments in the Scream and Toy Story franchises, as well as a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights. While it will take time for these films to become available for streaming, many recent blockbusters are already accessible from home. For example, one of the top movies of 2024 became available on Peacock this February.

Edward Berger’s thriller, Conclave, is now available to stream on Peacock. The film stars Ralph Fiennes as a cardinal tasked with choosing the next pope, but he soon finds himself caught up in a dangerous conspiracy. It began streaming on February 13th, though it’s unknown how long it will remain on the platform. Conclave first premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and went on to win British Academy and Golden Globe awards, earning eight Academy Award nominations. Critics love the film, giving it a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earning it a “Certified Fresh” designation. Audiences also give it high marks, with an 86% approval rating.

Conclave Is a High-Quality Contender for One of the Best Movies of the Decade

Both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute listed Conclave as one of the ten best films of 2024, and many believe it’s among the best of the decade so far. The movie offers a look inside the closed-door process of choosing a new pope, but it’s more than just a historical account. It’s a gripping thriller, much like a political drama, filled with secret deals, persuasive maneuvering, and changing loyalties as Cardinal Lawrence discovers troubling secrets about the potential candidates. The entire film unfolds over 72 hours within the Sistine Chapel, creating a sense of urgency, quickly developing the characters, and highlighting the immense pressure of the papal election.

Directed by Berger, the film transforms the traditionally secretive papal election into a gripping and suspenseful thriller. Every element, from the breathtaking visuals of the Sistine Chapel to the unsettling score by Volker Bertelmann, amplifies the tension and reflects the intense power struggle among the cardinals. The film also showcases exceptional acting, with Ralph Fiennes delivering a particularly remarkable performance, alongside strong showings from Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, and John Lithgow.
