Peacock is now streaming one of the standout horror films of 2024. Recent years have been fantastic for horror movies in theaters, and last year delivered with hits like Robert Eggers’ *Nosferatu*, Oz Perkins’ *Longlegs*, A24’s *I Saw the TV Glow*, *Late Night with the Devil*, and *The Substance*. Now, a film that offered a unique and inventive take on a classic horror monster is available on the NBCUniversal streaming service.
Starting September 19th, subscribers to Peacock can stream the popular 2024 horror movie *Abigail*. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (known as Radio Silence), the film is a modern take on the classic *Dracula’s Daughter*. The story follows a group of criminals who kidnap a 12-year-old ballerina, unaware that she’s the daughter of a dangerous crime boss. They lock her up in a remote mansion, only to discover their innocent-looking victim is actually a terrifying vampire, and a fight for survival begins. The movie stars Alisha Weir as Abigail, with Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito also featuring in the cast.
Why You Should Watch Abigail
While there are plenty of vampire movies available, *Abigail* is a particularly memorable one. It breathes new life into the genre by presenting a surprising villain: a seemingly innocent little girl who is just as terrifying and violent as any classic vampire. Young actress Alisha Weir delivers a fantastic and captivating performance in the role. The entire cast is strong, and the filmmaking team, Radio Silence, expertly balances humor and horror, creating a fast-paced, gory, and thoroughly enjoyable film that’s both frightening and funny.
Given its positive reception, it’s not surprising that *Abigail* earned excellent scores – 83% from both critics and audiences – on Rotten Tomatoes, qualifying it as “Certified Fresh.” Reviewers called it “a little silly, a little scary, and a lot of fun,” praising its playful approach to a familiar story, strong cast, and stylish presentation. While the movie’s $43 million worldwide box office revenue, compared to its $28 million budget, wasn’t a huge success, it still outperformed recent vampire films like *Renfield* and *The Last Voyage of the Demeter*. *Abigail* also proved popular with viewers on streaming platforms.
Other Horror Movies Now on Peacock
Peacock is a great place for horror fans, especially during Halloween season! Throughout September, the streaming service added a ton of scary movies and shows. Highlights include most of the *Chucky* films, two *Halloween* sequels, classic Alfred Hitchcock’s *The Birds*, *Scream 4*, the spooky *The Sixth Sense*, and the brand new *Terrifier 3*.
Peacock is adding a bunch of scary movies to its streaming service in October. Titles like *The Omen* (1976), *The Ring*, and *Shaun of the Dead* will be available starting October 1st.
