Peacock Streaming One of DreamWorks’ Best Movies (And It’s Not Shrek or How To Train Your Dragon)

DreamWorks is famous for movies like Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon, which have made the studio a leader in animation and created many beloved classics. Now, with the rise of streaming, it’s easier than ever to enjoy these films—including a fantastic DreamWorks movie that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves.

The popular 2013 animated movie The Croods, which made over $587 million around the world, is now available to stream on Peacock. This film follows a prehistoric family’s adventurous journey to find a new home in a strange and wonderful world. It joined other DreamWorks favorites like Trolls World Tour, Shrek, and Kung Fu Panda on the platform November 1st. The movie features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, and other well-known actors.

The Croods Is an Underrated Movie You Have to See

While The Croods was successful and led to a sequel, it doesn’t get enough credit when looking at all of DreamWorks’ animated movies. Films like Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, and Madagascar are more well-known, but The Croods is a truly excellent movie that deserves more recognition.

This animated movie is pure, joyful chaos for the whole family! It’s packed with hilarious moments – like a particularly funny dinner scene and the dad’s silly attempts at making up words – balanced with genuinely touching scenes about family. The film’s animation is beautiful and really brings the prehistoric world to life, creating a vibrant and imaginative landscape filled with incredible creatures. The Croods are a lovable, close-knit family, and the talented voice actors make them truly memorable.

Even now, the original The Croods remains a hit and is one of DreamWorks’ biggest successes. It earned $587 million worldwide, making it the tenth-highest-grossing film in the studio’s history – surpassing popular titles like Madagascar, Shrek, and The Boss Baby. Critics generally liked the movie, giving it a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it launched a whole franchise including the sequel The Croods: A New Age, and the TV series Dawn of the Croods and The Croods: Family Tree.

What’s New on Peacock?

As a movie critic, I have to say Peacock is really building a strong library, especially if you’re looking for something to watch with the whole family. November brought a ton of animated classics to the platform – think Captain Underpants, the Despicable Me series, and of course, Minions. But they didn’t stop there! They’ve also added some beloved live-action films like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cat In The Hat, Marmaduke, and Nanny McPhee. And for those of us who enjoy a bit more drama or action, they’ve also included titles like Dunkirk, Les Miserables, and several films from the Jurassic Park franchise. It’s a really solid mix of content, making Peacock a pretty attractive option for movie night.
