Peacock has announced when its prequel series to Friday the 13th will finally debut. While fans are excited, the release date unfortunately misses a chance to connect with a particularly fitting date.
As revealed on Monday, the new series Crystal Lake will start streaming on Peacock on Thursday, October 15, 2026, just before Halloween. While that’s exciting, November’s actual Friday the 13th might have been a more fitting premiere date. Many Friday the 13th films, including the 2009 remake, were originally released on actual Friday the 13ths.
Jason Voorhees Finally Returns After 17 Years
Fans of Friday the 13th are eagerly anticipating the upcoming project, as it’s been 17 years since the last official movie. While fan films and a popular video game have kept the spirit alive, Crystal Lake will be the first new story featuring Jason Voorhees, though it will explore a different point in his life. Many expect more Jason movies to follow.
Crystal Lake is a new series that takes place before the original Friday the 13th movie. The show stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, who was famously revealed as the killer in the first film (originally played by Betsy Palmer). The story explains how Pamela began killing camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake, driven by their negligence that led to her son Jason’s accidental drowning. Callum Vinson plays Jason in Crystal Lake.
Will Jason Wear the Hockey Mask in Crystal Lake?
The first sequel reintroduced Jason as a grown man, continuing his killing spree against anyone who crossed into his woods. He initially concealed his face with a burlap sack; the now-famous hockey mask didn’t appear until the third film. This means fans might not see Jason wearing the iconic mask in the upcoming Crystal Lake. However, the filmmakers haven’t ruled out the possibility of brief scenes showing adult Jason with the mask in flashbacks or flash-forwards.
The upcoming series, Crystal Lake, will feature some returning characters. Nick Cordileone will play Ralph, a character reminiscent of the iconic “Crazy Ralph” from the first two Friday the 13th films, originally played by Walt Gorney. Phoenix Parnevik and Danielle Kotch will also appear as Barry and Claudette, the names of the counselors who were killed at the very beginning of the original Friday the 13th movie.
Crystal Lake will premiere on Peacock on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026.
