Sky has unveiled a first look at upcoming action-thriller Prisoner ahead of its premiere in 2026.
I recently got a peek at the premise of this new series, and it’s got me intrigued. It stars Tahar Rahim, who was fantastic in ‘The Serpent,’ and Izuka Hoyle, known for her powerful performance in ‘Boiling Point.’ The story centers around a dedicated prison guard tasked with transporting a very dangerous inmate – a key witness against a powerful criminal organization – to court. It sounds like a tense, character-driven thriller, and I’m definitely adding it to my watchlist.
The initial photo shows actor Rahim portraying prisoner Tibor Stone, and Hoyle as Amber Todd, the guard whose transport is violently attacked.
The only people left, they’re running for their lives, handcuffed, and trying to reach their destination before time runs out, according to the official description.
Things get really tense as Amber and her reluctant partner try to navigate this dangerous situation. The people hunting them are closing in, and it starts to feel like they can’t trust anyone – trust itself becomes a dangerous game. Just surviving becomes a huge ethical challenge, and Amber really has to face what she’s willing to do to keep the people she cares about safe. It’s a tough spot, and it forces her to ask herself some really hard questions.
The six-episode series is directed by Otto Bathurst, who previously won a BAFTA for his work on Peaky Blinders. Matt Charman wrote the screenplay.
The film also stars a strong supporting cast including Eddie Marsan (known for Back to Black and The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe), Catherine McCormack (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, 28 Weeks Later), Leonie Benesch (September 5, Babylon Berlin), and Finn Bennett (Black Doves, True Detective), alongside Rahim and Hoyle.
Joining the cast are Sam Troughton (known for roles in Lockerbie: A Search for Truth and Black Doves), Laurie Davidson (The Girlfriend, Mary & George), Ken Nwosu (Black Doves, Sticks and Stones), Brían F O’Byrne (Conclave, The Wonder), and Youssef Kerkour (Lockerbie: A Search For Truth).
The new series, Prisoner, is scheduled to debut on Sky and NOW in 2026. You can add it to your watchlist using the TopMob: What to Watch app, available for download now, to get daily TV recommendations and more.
