(**WARNING: Contains spoilers for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man**)
Now available on Netflix, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man lets you continue the Birmingham gang’s story from the comfort of your home. It was in UK cinemas for a limited time earlier, but now it’s streaming for everyone.
The movie, generally well-received by critics, continues the story of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). It begins seven years after the end of the TV show, with Tommy now facing new challenges during the peak of World War II in 1940.
The movie begins with Tommy isolating himself and writing about his life. He’s haunted by memories of everyone he’s lost, especially his daughter Ruby, who died earlier in the show.
Meanwhile, we see Duke – portrayed by Barry Keoghan – again. He’s been leading the Peaky Blinders while Tommy was away, and under his control, the gang has become violent and ruthless, reverting to their old, cruel methods.

Tim Roth plays Beckett, a new character who supports the Nazis. He’s involved in a real historical plot called Operation Bernhard, where the Germans tried to cripple Britain’s economy by flooding it with fake money. Beckett kicks off the story by trying to get Duke to join his plan.
So, things really start cooking when Kaulo, Rebecca Ferguson’s super mysterious character, gives Tommy a nudge. It basically pulls him out of hiding and forces him to step up for what feels like the biggest, most crucial moment of his life. As a movie fan, I could feel the stakes rising!

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man ending explained – what happens with the counterfeit money?
The story truly begins when Beckett tests Duke’s loyalty by ordering him to kill Ada Shelby. Ada has replaced Tommy as a Member of Parliament and Beckett sees her as a danger to his scheme.
Despite Duke’s hesitation, Ada couldn’t be saved. Beckett shot her at close range, and she died immediately.
Soon after his sister’s death, Tommy has a vision of her on the road, prompting him to end his self-imposed exile. He dramatically returns to Birmingham on horseback, accompanied by a new rendition of the show’s familiar theme song, Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand.”
Tommy’s initial priority is a difficult conversation with his son, which quickly escalates into a physical fight in a pigsty. After confronting Beckett, Tommy devises a plan to stop the unfolding scheme, enlisting the help of Duke and several former associates, including Hayden Stagg, played by Stephen Graham.
Hayden tells Tommy where Beckett is hiding – in a warehouse. Tommy gets in through a tunnel, which brings back difficult memories of fighting in the First World War. Meanwhile, Duke uses a clever trick to help their team destroy a group of Beckett’s men on canal boats.
When Tommy reaches the warehouse, a gunfight breaks out, and most of Beckett’s crew are killed. At the same time, Tommy manages to destroy the containers holding the fake money, successfully completing the mission.
Does Tommy Shelby die in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?
The movie doesn’t end with the initial confrontation. Even though he survived, Beckett tries to get revenge on Tommy by driving a car directly at him. Tommy manages to shoot Beckett, killing him, but not before being shot twice in the stomach himself.
Finally, he asks Duke to shoot and kill him, wanting Duke to take over as the leader of the Peaky Blinders, as he feels he’s ready to die. Duke obeys, shooting his father during an embrace – a plan that was previously arranged by his aunt, Kaulo.
It’s clear Tommy has died. The movie concludes with a traditional Romany funeral where his body is cremated, surrounded by family photos, as his friends and family mourn his loss.
Who dies in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?
Okay, so right from the start, this movie doesn’t pull any punches. We lose Ada pretty early on – she’s murdered by Beckett, and that single act really kicks the whole plot into gear. It’s a shocking moment that immediately sets the story in motion, and honestly, it’s a gut punch that stays with you.
Both Beckett and most of his anonymous soldiers die during the final battle, just before Tommy’s death at the very end.
We also find out that Arthur Shelby, Tommy’s unpredictable older brother and a key figure throughout the series, has passed away sometime between the show’s finale and the start of the movie.
How does Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man set up the sequel TV series?

Even though Tommy Shelby has died, Peaky Blinders will continue with two more seasons taking place in 1963. These seasons will follow a new generation of the Shelby family.
It’s 1953 in Britain. Birmingham is rebuilding after being heavily damaged in World War II, using concrete and steel to create a brighter future.
The world of Peaky Blinders, created by Steven Knight, is entering a new phase. The fight to control Birmingham’s ambitious rebuilding efforts turns into a fierce and epic struggle. The city is brimming with both incredible possibilities and deadly threats, and the Shelby family finds themselves at the center of all the violence and ambition.
It’s still unclear exactly how the movie’s story will connect to the show, but it’s likely we’ll see how Duke’s leadership has affected the Peaky Blinders over the last thirteen years. He’ll probably act differently than he does at the start of the film.
As a fan of the Peaky Blinders saga, I was definitely thinking about the future while watching the film. It’s exciting to remember there are still Shelby family members out there with potential stories to tell. We know Tommy had a younger brother, Finn, who could easily carry a narrative, and it was a nice touch to see his son, Charlie – revealed to be a soldier during the film’s timeline – briefly at Tommy’s funeral. It leaves the door open for some interesting possibilities down the line.
