“People are predicting chaos”

As a follower of America Decides: US Presidential Election, I find myself constantly on edge and juggling multiple roles – mother, wife, and unofficial news reporter. The campaign this year has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, with twists and turns that make even the wildest soap operas seem tame in comparison.

How would you describe the campaign so far?

Completely disorganized. With four sons ranging from eight to fifteen, I’d be struggling if not for a very understanding spouse who takes care of everything.

Your most jaw-dropping moment?

The first attempt to assassinate Trump. We’d snuck away for the weekend to a lake in Virginia. I was in my swimming costume when my 15-year-old called out: “Mum! Someone’s just tried to kill Donald Trump!”

Can you ever switch off?

On Saturdays, I embody the typical American soccer mom, yet my phone never seems to stop vibrating. In case of emergencies, I swiftly dash towards the closest airport. My life is essentially divided between drive-throughs.

When will the election be over for you? Do you have a holiday booked before the 20 January inauguration?

Oh dear, not this again, with Trump suggesting that if the election is lost, it’s fraudulent. Many are anticipating unrest and isolated acts of violence.

Do you get much social media abuse?

At a Trump event, asking a difficult question might lead to being loudly criticized as “biased or fake news.” Alternatively, there’s an overwhelming amount of X.

Can US politics ever reset to the calmer previous ways?

Personally, I find that around half of our nation yearns for a sense of familiarity, or what they refer to as ‘normality’. However, it’s evident that the Trump family has established a political dynasty. It seems only natural to anticipate that Donald Trump Jr. might aspire towards a future in politics as well.
