One of the actors from Percy Jackson and the Olympians hopes the show will switch things up in its fifth season. Currently, the Disney+ series is covering one book per season – season one was based on The Lightning Thief, and season two is adapting The Sea of Monsters.
Aryan Simhadri, in an interview with ScreenRant about the upcoming season 2 of Percy Jackson, expressed his hope that the fifth season would be divided into two parts. This season is expected to cover The Last Olympian, the final book in the main Percy Jackson series.
Amir Simhadri, who portrays Grover, jokingly said directing an episode would be both incredibly challenging and exciting. He also expressed a desire for himself and Percy Jackson actor Walker Scobell to be involved in the writing or production of the show by seasons four or five. You can find his full comments below.
The thought of not getting to contribute is a little scary, honestly (laughs). But we’d really love to be more involved! Walker and I ask every season if we can join the writing or production teams, and they usually say maybe next time. I think it could realistically happen by season 4 or 5, especially if they split season 5 into two parts. We have a ton of ideas we’d like to share, and we often have thoughts on where the story could go or what could be added. The writers are always open to our input, but we’d just love to be more directly involved in shaping the show. That would be amazing.
The Last Olympian brings the original Percy Jackson series to a close, resolving the story that started with The Lightning Thief, including the conflict with Kronos and the Great Prophecy. Given how much happens in this final book and how many character journeys conclude, it makes sense that Simhadri thinks the story would work best as a two-part adaptation.
While The Last Olympian is the longest book in the main Percy Jackson series, it’s not significantly longer than the others. This makes us wonder if the fifth season of the TV show should be divided into two parts, particularly if future seasons each have eight episodes.
Currently, the show hasn’t been officially picked up for seasons 4 or 5. Season 3 was renewed in March and started filming in August, quite a bit before season 2 premiered in December. However, given the quick renewal for season 3 and the fact that season 1 was Disney+’s most-watched series ever, it’s probable that we’ll see seasons 4 and 5 eventually.
The younger actors in the Percy Jackson series are growing up with their roles, and that opens up possibilities for them to take on more behind-the-scenes work. For actors like Simhadri and Scobell, this could mean becoming producers or even helping to write episodes, giving them more influence over decisions like dividing the fifth season into two parts.
Simhadri is also very interested in directing an episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, particularly one that heavily features Grover. His strong connection to the character would allow him to portray Grover authentically, both as a director and through his understanding of the role.
