As a long-time fanatic of the Persona series, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension at the latest news from Atlus. Kazuhisa Wada’s statements about remaking Persona 1 and 2 have me all a-flutter! If these rumors are true, then I might just pass out from joy. I mean, who wouldn’t want to revisit the early days of the Persona franchise with updated graphics and perhaps even some tweaks to make gameplay smoother?
A key figure behind the Persona series at Atlus has addressed speculation that remakes for the original Persona and Persona 2 are being developed. This year, a reliable source started spreading word about Atlus possibly working on updated versions of their first two Persona games under the title “Persona 3 Reload”. However, it’s unclear if this project is truly in motion. What we do know is that one of the series’ primary creators strongly supports such an endeavor.
When GameSpot interviewed Kazuhisa Wada, a key creative figure in the Persona series at Atlus, they asked him about remaking Persona 1 and Persona 2. Unsurprisingly, Wada didn’t reveal whether such projects are underway at Atlus, but he did express his wish to do so. However, whether he will be able to make this dream a reality remains uncertain for now.
At the moment, it’s not in my plans to remake Persona 1 and Persona 2. However, I’d be keen on doing it at some point in the future.
If recent whispers carry any truth, Atlus might be pondering over several reboots of their Persona series. Apart from the original Persona and Persona 2, there are also whispers about a remake of Persona 4 in the works. All this is happening alongside plans for Persona 6, which would be the next major installment in the RPG franchise. Whatever Atlus chooses to do next, it’s evident that they are committed to keeping the Persona series as a significant part of their portfolio.
In the coming months, Atlus is planning to unveil something entirely fresh. Expected in October, “ReFantazio” is the upcoming intellectual property (IP) from Atlus that appears to be heavily inspired by concepts and mechanics from Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. Before this, the “Episode Aigis” DLC for “Persona 3 Reload” will become available on September 10th, serving as a conclusion to the game’s narrative.
