Pete Davidson Shares Tattoos He’s Keeping Amid “Awful” Removal Process

Pete Davidson can’t wait to be rid of his tattoos—most of them, at least.

Though Pete Davidson has been working for years to remove his many tattoos—over 200 in total—he’s decided to keep the one honoring his mother, Amy Waters Davidson.

Pete Davidson explained that his mom asked him why he hadn’t gotten a tattoo dedicated to her. He told Entertainment Tonight that he responded by getting a tattoo that simply says ‘MOMTATTOO,’ and he intends to keep it forever.

Pete Davidson, who is going to be a father with his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, says he plans to keep his tattoos, including those inspired by The Sopranos and one dedicated to his late father, Scott Davidson. Scott was a firefighter who died in the 9/11 attacks.

“I have my dad’s ID [number],” he shared, “and that’s pretty much it.”

Removing all of the comedian’s tattoos is a lengthy and difficult undertaking. He started the process back in 2020, and it’s expected to take ten years total – he still has a lot of work ahead of him. Plus, it’s not a very comfortable procedure.

“It’s terrible,” Pete admitted. He explained that he’d been recording it and showing it to the younger members of his family as a lesson: “If you don’t enjoy something, this is how you handle it.”

“But I’m excited ‘cause I’m making changes,” he continued. “So I’m excited, but it sucks.”

Pete has recently made another big change in his life: he’s been sober for over a year, and he says his mother is the reason he started this journey.

He shared with Theo Von on the This Past Weekend podcast back in September that his mom is incredibly supportive. He recalled a particularly difficult moment when she called him while he was in rehab, expressing her deepest fear: seeing a news report about his death.

And Pete highlighted that his mom’s blunt delivery made a big impact on him.

He explained that she’s incredibly supportive and always tries to maintain a positive attitude. He said this gave him the strength to keep going, telling himself he needed to live as long as she did.
