Peter Greene’s Cause of Death Revealed in New Report

The coroner’s report has revealed how the actor died, over two months after his death in December 2025. Greene was 60 years old when he was found dead in his New York City apartment.

Sources at PEOPLE magazine report that actor Johnny Greene died from a gunshot wound to the armpit that damaged a major artery. The New York City Medical Examiner officially ruled his death an accident. While news of Greene’s passing was initially confirmed by his manager, Gregg Edwards, the cause of death wasn’t revealed at that time.

Peter Greene was a versatile actor, but he became most famous for portraying villains. His manager famously stated, “Nobody could play a bad guy quite like Peter.” This sentiment was widely shared by fans and fellow actors in the days following his passing, as evidenced by the many tributes paid to him.

He was well-known for playing villains, notably the intimidating Dorian Tyrell in Jim Carrey’s The Mask and Zed in Pulp Fiction, who kidnapped Marsellus Wallace with his brother. He was particularly skilled at portraying cold and ruthless characters, making him a frequent choice for these types of roles.

Peter Greene Stars with Mickey Rourke in His Final Movie

After the passing of actor Lance Henriksen, a trailer was released for his last starring role in the film 3 Days Rising. This movie is a fresh take on Edgar Allan Poe’s classic story, The Fall of the House of Usher, and also features Mickey Rourke, Ice-T, Vincent Young, and Kelly Monroe. Though Netflix recently presented its own adaptation of the tale by Mike Flanagan, 3 Days Rising promises a uniquely disturbing and reimagined version. The film’s story is described as a new, gruesome interpretation of the original.

3 Days Rising is a captivating and unsettling film that retells the classic Edgar Allan Poe story, ‘The Fall of the House of Usher.’ Eric Usher, haunted by his past, lives in isolation and struggles with his own mind. He’s forced to choose between helping his brother and sister, Rick and Cher, or saving himself. His decision, and whether he can maintain his sanity, will determine their fate, leading to a shocking and violent ending that stays true to Poe’s spirit.

Craig Cukrowski’s first feature film as a director, 3 Days Rising, will also be a fitting final project for actor Tom Greene. Cukrowski, a friend of Greene’s for over twenty years, told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor was a very different person than the characters he so convincingly played.

People are often surprised by the real Peter, because he’s quite different from the characters he plays. As a friend, I’ve always known him to be a genuinely warm, caring, and generous person. It’s been wonderful to also see his dedication as an actor – he fully transforms himself when he takes on a role.

The director also mentioned that Greene had watched the finished film before he passed away. Greene playfully called it his “ultimate swan song,” which the director initially dismissed as typical exaggeration from the actor. However, Greene was very pleased with how the movie turned out.
