Diane Morgan will return as her hilariously clueless character, Philomena Cunk, in a new series on the BBC.
Comedian Morgan first gained recognition playing the character Cunk on Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe in 2013, and recently appeared in the second season of Last One Laughing.
The comedian, playing a clueless interviewer, gained popularity with shows like ‘Cunk on Britain’ and ‘Cunk on Life’. She became known for asking deliberately absurd questions to serious experts – for example, comparing the cultural impact of the Renaissance to Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies,’ or asking a nuclear weapons specialist if they liked ABBA.
In Philomena Cunk’s newest project, Morgana Robinson is working with Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, on a three-episode BBC series called ‘Cunk on Cinema’. The series will feature Cunk, playing a hilariously uninformed reporter, as she explores why people love movies.
Filming for the new show started this week, and it’s being described as Cunk’s most glamorous project yet.

Philomena (Diane Morgan) will be interviewing experts and tackling big questions about film history. She’ll cover everything from the very beginning – the invention of the camera – to the French New Wave movement of the 1960s, the rise of computer-generated imagery, and even what artificial intelligence might mean for the future of movies.
Philomena Cunk tries to unravel the history of cinema – from its origins to its purpose – all while sitting in an uncomfortable movie theater with old popcorn. She wonders about the very essence of film and why it remains so mysterious.
The show features an interview with Philomena Cunk, who humorously claims that cinema’s most impactful moments – like the shower scene in Psycho, Death playing chess in The Seventh Seal, and Tom Selleck’s mustache in Three Men and a Little Lady – represent the entirety of its powerful depictions of the human experience.
She assured me there would be very little black and white footage, though she admitted some would be unavoidable.
Brooker joked that with Sora effectively ending Hollywood and its own existence – maybe in a dramatic, self-destructive act – now is a good time to review 200 years of film. He’ll be doing this with Philomena Cunk, whom he playfully describes as an employee they’re stuck with despite her cluelessness.
Created by Charlie Brooker, along with Morgan and Sam Ward, the new series will premiere on BBC Two later in the year.
