Phineas and Ferb’s fifth season has the show’s main characters, Phineas and Ferb, back for another summer of adventures, now available on Disney’s streaming services. The revival sees co-creators Jeff “Swampy” Marsh and Dan Povenmire once again at the helm, keeping the focus on the popular duo. We recently chatted with the creators at the Savannah College of Art And Design Animation Festival about the new season, as well as season six, which is planned for next year, and whether they ever imagined Phineas and Ferb spending more time in school instead of on their usual escapades.
When talking about what’s next for the show, “Swampy” began by saying, “We’ve decided which characters we’re definitely going to eliminate-laughs.” Povenmire continued, “We’re going to focus on Irving as the central character. We’re enjoying the creative process as much as we did during the fifth season. I believe some of the upcoming episodes will become truly iconic and memorable for viewers. Fans watching season six will likely exclaim, ‘I remember this happening in this episode!’ We’re experimenting more with the established elements of the series, playfully subverting expectations while remaining faithful to the show’s core.”
Phineas and Ferb Go To School (Sort Of)

Dan Povenmire jokingly brought up the idea of Ferb and Phineas attending school, and admitted that drawing desks is surprisingly difficult for animators. He explained, “We initially teased the idea to see how people would react – we got messages like, ‘Wait, are you really putting them in school now??’ We have considered it, but we’re hesitant because it would drastically change the show’s dynamic. We realized it would be fundamentally different. And honestly, drawing desks is just hard! They’re all angles, and figuring out the perspective with all the rows is a real headache. You’ll notice that most shows with school scenes use flat tables – it’s much simpler. So, everyone ends up in a biology lab with flat tables!”
Marsh jokingly added, “We’d need a truly great story to justify the challenge of designing desks.” Earlier in our discussion, they mentioned that they’re too busy right now for another series crossover, but they’d love to be part of future specials like the previous Marvel and Star Wars team-ups with Phineas and Ferb.”
We at Lucasfilm are very interested in pursuing another Indiana Jones project. However, because we’re currently focused on other series, we haven’t yet developed any specific proposals to present to Disney. It’s also worth noting that the original owners still retain control of the rights, which can complicate things.
Regarding season six, an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, only that it’s planned for 2026. Season five is currently airing, with the last episode scheduled to be released later this month. But once the current Phineas and Ferb season concludes, we know many animation enthusiasts will be thrilled to see these beloved characters return, whether they’re at school or having fun in their backyard during summer break. You can revisit the siblings’ past adventures by streaming earlier seasons on Disney+ well before the new episodes arrive next year.
