Phylicia Rashad is honoring her TV son.
The actress appeared at the 2025 Emmys in Los Angeles on September 14th to introduce the segment honoring those the television industry recently lost. The tribute began with a remembrance of her former *Cosby Show* colleague, Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
Rashad started by remembering the actor as a popular young star on a well-known TV show that audiences enjoyed watching throughout his journey to adulthood. He added that, like many other people they’ve lost this year, Malcolm-Jamal Warner will be fondly remembered.
We remember these individuals not only for their incredible skills, but also for how they inspired us and brought out the best in ourselves. Though they are gone, we can find comfort in knowing their influence will endure through the stories we tell and the positive impact they had on our lives.
The performance segment included a duet of Vince Gill’s song “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson. It also honored those in the television industry who recently passed away, including Anne Burrell, Michelle Trachtenberg, John Amos, and Ozzy Osbourne.
It’s been so heartbreaking learning about the loss of Charles Warner. Just days before the memorial, his wife, Tenisha Warner, finally spoke out. It’s tough knowing they have an 8-year-old daughter who’s also going through this, and they’ve chosen to keep her name private. He tragically drowned in Costa Rica, and it’s just devastating to think he was only 54.
She shared on Instagram on September 12th that she was deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support she’d received. She wrote about still hearing her husband’s laugh and remembering how he always made space for all of her feelings and aspirations.
Tenisha explained that she and her daughter are dedicated to honoring the actor’s memory and announced the creation of The Warner Family Foundation to help achieve this.
She went on to say that they were continuing the work she and her husband started-helping children discover their potential and encouraging young artists to express themselves freely. It’s a legacy of love that continues to inspire and drive them all forward.
